@stealthycat , what are the farmers thoughts on the Coues deer in that area? Are they hated?
I didn't talk to any but the private land we drove through had the most deer too. Its mostly cattle ranches ... a few corn pivots ... pistachio and pecan groves

They have javelina down low, I think they are the hated game

Thing is now I know a guy can do that hunt DIY
So at first light, the guide takes us to where he has patterned a group of 8 mule deer bucks
As you said in your first post, this is the thing about having a guide though.
Him haveing them patterned really helps a ton.
Doing DIY is what we do in Wyo and you do lose a lot of time finding the deer for that first stalk. Then again though, that's part of the adventure too.

Both are true .. had I killed a patterned muley buck you're absolutely right, guides help that much

Take 10 days, use mapping apps, Glass, find water holes etc ....DIY will work IMO

The place I killed my buck was 1st time in there this year, we put a blind up that morning . . Public land, we had seen 3 bucks over the mountain the day before but no idea what to expect that last day

Aren’t Coues deer what they have down in zone 12?
Yea there’s pockets of em
Hmm, now that I think about it I’ll be scoring all of my zone 12 bucks on the coues scale from now on. No longer letting 110” deer walk
youve never let a 110 walk on purpose
