if its right ... 174 for bear zone 1 as of when I pulled report using 2026, bear, date, county, zone

I grind mine and add water. Keeps it snow white and any water soluble impurities fall into the water. The principles of fractional distillation keep the solution at the lowest boiling point in the solution, in this case 212. No scorching. Then a homemade sep funnel to separate while it’s still liquid. But you don’t get any cracklings pieces since it’s all ground.

Two years in a row of failure on my end. Had bear until a few afternoon storms carpeted ground with acorns. Bait barrels are sitting full. Coons. Crows. Buzzards. Van buren county

Archery: Closed.
Alternative Firearms: Closed.
Special Youth Modern Gun Bear Hunt: Closed.
Modern Gun: Dec. 20-26, 2025 (Zone 4 closes earlier if quota is reached)

Statewide Bag Limit
One bear, either sex, by any method.

Modern gun quota: 25 bears

They won't even let a kid kill an early bear in our part of the woods.

I wish they would open season early; get the quota; and then shut it down if they must.

problem with that is ... with allow outfitters like we do, they'd have the season filled in 2-3 days that's it, done and over

with later season like it is, we have 7-10 or 14 days of season for people to maximize their hunting opportunities

google says "Arkansas black bears enter their dens for a period of dormancy, or "winter torpor," from late November/early December to March/April, with pregnant females staying in the den the longest. The exact timing depends on food availability and temperature, with males typically entering and exiting dens earlier than females. Although this period is often called hibernation, it is technically a less profound state of torpor, allowing bears to awaken if disturbed "

the above is pretty correct - I don't get bears on cameras really after Nov 1st that I can remember

That’s fake news if I’ve ever read it. Timing season with acorns falling sucks. Quota is nowhere near filled and likely won’t be. Was the same situation last year. Later season seems to increase young bear and sow harvest as they seem to hang around the baits longer after the acorns fall. Fewer bear coming to baits means less picky hunters.
