Granola, pancake syrup, bread and grease are the base to my bait. Stand and camera are in place.

I have been thinking about it. Just moved here ( Baxter County ) and have a huge amount of work to do on the driveway, build a shop, make the yard decent etc. But if I dont, I know I will regret it when season comes! I do need to figure out where to get bait

 

Starting to get a Few bears on our place lots of ol caves and Dinning Areas.
Really don't want them.Tearing up stuff..

Don’t understand why we have to push it back…..that’s the exact time the big boars we are suppose to target disappear off the baits for natural carbs

 

It is a little odd that it opens mid-week, between the early buck archery and the regular deer archery seasons. I guess they want to make sure that you have no opportunity to kill anything else while you’re sitting and basting in your own juices and the bear is two mountains away eating acorns and muscadines.

 

Are you gonna mix a liquid in to coat those? Grease, molasses, etc?

 

I have some syrup but I think ill thin down the caramel I have

 

How many barrels do you bait?
2,200 lbs of mixed nuts would last me 10-12 years.

 

I’ll feed that much or more every year. It adds up quickly if you have several bears at each bait in a bad acorn year.

With all the natural stuff in the woods last year, it was a total bust for me. I did not have anything on camera after Sept 7th - so I did not keep feeding or get in the stand on that 85 degree day. So, it was actually a good break. But I have two so far this year on camera. I took my biggest last year. A 12-year old sow that was 320+ lbs (that's what scale showed before her head off the ground and pulley broke). I have only gotten three, but progressively bigger. All with crossbow. So this year, if I go to all the trouble, I am going to try compound bow for a new achievement. We will see.

I have one 5-gallon bucket of peanut butter from last year unopened. I am hoping it is still good to use.

 

Anyone Tried Sweetfeed for Bear ?

 

Yes. It doesn’t get eaten like dog food or corn. Much like oats They’ll rake it out and leave it to rot.

Those coons can be rough on a fruit tree.

 

Yelp my Dad's pear tree is loaded..
Most we've ever seen..Squirrel, Coons,Crows tearing them up..

 

we need rain - acorns dropping in mid-Sept because of drought is bad bad bad for us all

 

It’s been one of the wettest years in the last 6 years. Is Baxter that dry? It’s only been hot for a few weeks. But i did notice all my crab apples on the ground this morning.

 

I wish I could acquire 2000# of white oak acorns ... frozen, ready to throw on the ground 10 days before bear season ....
