While I believe that story is definitely a smoke screen for the truth I have said all along that I feel like there will be people deer hunting this year that hasn't hunted in years based off of events that transpired starting in March with the supply chain meat shortage. I suspect public land will be hunted much harder and with the ridiculous antlerless deer firearm limits some places will take years to recover. Makes you wonder if their isn't a plan to drastically reduce natural food sources for those that have always provided for them selves.

If ex hunters start back to hunting then it’s probably shear luck if they kill something. One loses skills after a while of not hunting. There are several reasons why we have an ammo shortage and hunting is on the bottom of that list IMHO.

I think it is because We the gun guys don’t want to be without ammo. There is 2k rounds of 22lr out there by my garage door. I’ll never shoot it. But at least I left 1.5k rounds for somebody else, ha. We are the main reason there is an ammo shortage.

I don’t frequent the Texarkana AR Walmart’s sporting goods section often, but I noticed yesterday every gun & 100% of the the ammo is still sold out. Shelves are empty. It’s been that way for weeks.
Sports Academy said they get a shipment in and 20 people will be fighting in the isles over the maximum 3 box limit. It's ridiculous to say the least, I just need a little for home protection not a civil war. I imagine some 350 lb bubba in overalls sitting in his basement every night just looking at the pallets of ammo and ordering clips. He's probably reading this post and mad because he doesn't need any clips.

You couldn't be more wrong.

I personally know a gun store owner who will tell you it doesn't matter what you order right now, you get what you get.

And if you think Walmart or Academy is hoarding ammo just to make a little more profit in a month, then you have no clue how those places work.

It is being produced, shipped, and sold as fast as possible.

I guess I’m just as much to blame as the next guy. I had to pick up a prescription for my Mom at Walmart & it wasn’t quite ready, so I went to Sporting Goods & Automotive to pass the time. Still no guns but now they had just a tiny bit of ammo. Saw 1 box of WW 130 gr .270 Win for $16.87 & I bought it, though I didn’t really need it.

Are you being obstinate or do you just not get how business works? There was no way to stockpile for this. No way to change distributors to get better quantities.

I Drive one of the most popular Trunks in this area....

We live in a small town..Small businesses..

Only 2 batteries..Really..I could have drove another Hour to a bigger Town and they had plenty..Decided to buy local...

I'll Drive the hour next time..We have our small town Problems..

I don't buy much ammo made in America, I would, if they would make match grade .22s but Germany has been hard hit with this Covid stuff, they didn't have enough employes to run maximum production and this limited the amounts shipped to suppliers, the suppliers ship to dealers what they can, so it limits availability.

It is a result of a number of things - lack of raw materials to produce due to increased demand and in many cases, decreased output due to covid slowdowns due to lack of healthy workers or workers taking advantage of liberal unemployment benefits. You cant just up and buy more production equipment like you go buy a new car. This is highly specialized equipment. Most firearms manufacturers are waiting on barrels. Doesnt matter how many receivers you can make - you can only make as many guns as you have barrels. Go price a production quality capable barrel reamer in say 300 Blackout. You break your 300 BO reamer and you are out $90,000 and nine months waiting on a new one - and each barrel manufacturer supplies numerous firearms companies. And if you want to add manufacturing space - there are business permits that may take months - or years to obtain.

ammo and gun manufacturers are not holding back. They dont want to get caught holding billions of dollars worth of product if unfavorable legislation is passed.

They make money by selling product - not by sitting on it.
