Somebody told me you are allowed to shoot snow geese in any field UNLESS it is marked. Whether it's private or not. Is this true?
As we move towards a more socialist government - it very well could be the case some day. You know - the use of your land by everyone is for the greater good.Nowadays, I'm sure there are people that believe that.
Dang man I had to make sure! Ya never know these days.Me kidding? No!
Yes I am kidding. I thought the thread was a sarcastic one to begin with. Surely no one really believes a huntin season has ever given a person permission to trespass.

Me kidding? No!alright, well luckless I am pretty sure you are kidding. At least I hope so, lol.
Skip, you aren't looking at it from a landowners POV. You don't know why each landowner does what they do with their land. It's actually hunters who screw things up most of the time. We have let people creep geese on our land before and it will NEVER happen again. That just led to more people wanting to come and go as they pleased, trash, etc. Ended up prosecuting 3 guys for trespassing.
Additionally, what if the land is being used for other management practices such as upland birds or songbirds? Who wants some stupid redneck creeping through your buffer strips to shoot some geese just because it's good cover. That cover may be nesting habitat for another bird. Just think outside the box. Just because they are in the field doesn't mean jimmy redneck can go in the field as he pleases.
Just shoot em whenever and wherever. If you get any lip from the land owner tell them to shut their trap and that you heard there wasn't a limit on the geese or the land owners.
alright, well luckless I am pretty sure you are kidding. At least I hope so, lol.I look at it this way. If there is farmland idling and not being used at the time, some of them shouldn't be such jerks about leasing it. There is alot of people that respect farmers, farmland, and abide by guidelines that never get an opportunity to hunt certain lands cause some jack leg screwed over the farmer beforehand. Set some guidelines and if they don't respect it, shut it down.
There is ways for farmers to work with people but there is alot of them that are flat out rude about it. Hopefully you don't fit that category.
MHO
You make a valid point regarding insurance. Never crosses my mind really. Knowing my camp has insurance but never really think about the majority. Understandable when it comes to tearing up the farm land. Our farmer frowns on it big time. We don't drive on the levy's with our vehicles or pull trailers down them when its muddy. Then again we have leased from the same one for yrs and when the agreement was signed he explained what he didn't like and we respect him for it and abide by his rules. And thats what I mean by it can be handled up front and if the leesers don't, it will be shut down. There are a few reasons we farmers are such jerks sometimes. Here are a few.Seems the majority of folks who arent involved in farming think of us no better than welfare recipients. We basically farm for the government and there isnt a darn thing we can do about it,and still keep farming. We dont set our prices like everyone else who has a product for sale. We buy retail and sell wholesale. Its all I have ever done and dont have the skills to do much of anything else at my age.I will get off my soapbox about that now. As for the rude people some of us can be,look at it this way,in this area we have a ton of folks from Memphis Nashville and Little Rock. They lease alot of farms in our area. They also bring their kids and turn then loose as if this is free range country. I have a field rutted up now because of some kids of hunters not being told you dont use the road ditch for 4 wheeler jumps and someones private property for spin outs and mud slinging. As we see it the rudeness lies with the hunter who thinks he and his buddies can without permission creep snow geese on our property. The issue of liability is a major factor also.Joe Bob and his young son Poot Bloom might be good as gold but momma living in the big city might think she needs a farm if something terrible ever happened to either of them. Our regular insurance dosent cover hunting accidents whether its our own leesers or a trespasser.
I have given permission every year for different folks to hunt geese on my place.Almost all are oosers. When I catch trespassers they get an intense butt chewing. If they show a hint of remorse nothing more is done.If they come across as the bad boy hunters and give that WHATEVER look, they will get a trespassing ticket. I hope that answered some questions that some folks might have wondered about.
You a big softy...I absolutely despise the vigilante goose hunter.....

Man. You don't have to twist my arm. Thanks. I'll see when he's free.Doug, you being a friend of Derrick, would be welcome.I have already given a fellow AH member permission to goose hunt.We just dont have any geese here right now.But that should change. You can get my number from Derrick. You should make him bring you fishing too.

Thats what i was thinkini would say you have to follow the same trespassing rules regardless of what game you are after.
