I recently came into an old Marlin 1893.
I can’t find a cartridge marking on it.
It has a 6 digit serial number that starts with 39 ( no letter prefix)

Anybody have any idea when it was made?
That serial number isn’t on the online lists I checked.
I think it’s a 30-30, but don’t see it marked

Thanks everyone. Under bright light with a magnifying glass I think I can make out a worn cartridge marking (30-30) on the top of the barrel near the receiver.

Some places online say the model 1893 marking changed to model 93 in 1919, but one place said 1905.
From everything I can piece together I think it’s from the early teens. It’s in pretty good shape for a 100 year old rifle if that is correct. I need to clean the barrel, but the action is really smooth.

Not sure. I can make out what looks like a 30 and a hyphen, but the rest is too worn. I found a pic online of one with a mid 400k serial number that clearly says 30-30 that they claimed was from around 1915

I cleaned the rifle and barrel has really heavy lead fouling (worst I’ve seen) but doesn’t appear pitted.
What’s the best (and easiest) way to remove 110 years worth of lead fouling without damaging the bore.
Wish you could still buy a Foul Out.
