I know here we go again, but I will honestly two you I was truly surprised to see my first Arkansas black panter in Antioch off of Hwy 31 and Sandy Ford rd tonight. Amazing animal. Turned around to get a picture but it was gone.

No black panther (cougar) has ever been documented. The existence of such an animal has never been authenticated. Ever. Anywhere.
Jaguars can be black. I suppose some other big cats might be.
I'm not about to say you didn't see something. Perhaps a captive black jaguar that was released or escaped? Or a true mountain lion in the shadows? I don't know. But if it was a black cougar, there's a world full of biologists who would like to find it, I'm sure.

I think if he looked a little closer, he would have seen that the tooth fairy had it on a leash and it was, therefore, a pet.
I believe you. There IS a wild and breeding population of Mt. Lions in Arkansas. Plain and Simple.
I know there are some arguments about the black colored cats, but don't listen or let these silly comments from some of these folks bother you.

I saw a Mt. Lion in South Arkansas on opening day of dove season earlier this year.
I also believe you. I've seen 4 while hunting in Pike County just south of Lake Greason over the years. On the first occasion I saw a mother and 2 little one's run cross a fire break in front of me south of the Diamond Mine State Park. This coincided with several reports from the locals, that some of their dogs had been killed in the area. The local game warden wouldn't acknowledge one way or the other on the presence of Mt. Lions.
I've seen Black Jaguar here in the states. I've seen seven in my lifetime. I've seen them in Florida, Texas, and Alabama as a young man and they were identical to the ones I saw in the jungles of central america. Not real sure of the species or nomenclature given to each. I've also seen many Jaguarundis as far north as Austin Texas. I've also seen Kudamundi as far north as Hondo Texas. I don't have a hard time believing these animals can be more widespread than supposed.

How many of you have heard of something called a reeser cat? My dad used to catch them in traps and tree them hunting with dogs North of Clarkesville in the Mountains. He said they looked like a bobcat with a long tail. He killed several and sold the fur. The fur buyer called them reeser cats. Dad said he has never seen a picture of one or a description of one in a book. He said they killed a few every year when he was a kid but never heard of one anywhere but there and then. It was in the late 1930s and early 40s.
