i think I’m going with the .400 Legend, better performance than the .360 Buckhammer especially past 200 yards.

400L won’t hold a candle to 360BH, especially once you throw handloading into the mix. Just too small of a cartridge trying to push too big of a bullet.

Throw away the entire 0.45 because it's too big for deer? What do you shoot in your muzzleloader?

Minimum was a 40cal bullet, and because of availability, I shot a 45. But I shot it because it was ballistically superior in every way to a 50, just like a 360BH is superior in every way to any straight wall 45, unless we’re hunting Buffalo at 50yds.

Buckhammer hasn’t been around long enough to get established. Will you be able to find ammo in 5-10 years? Think SAUM’s, WSSM’s, WSM’s, etc. can’t hardly find ammo for them and if you do they are $$$.

The 350 and 450 have been going for years and are well established rounds.

A lot of that popularity has to go hand in hand with the popularity of the MSR platform. The 360 just has too many things going for it with the way most straight wall regs are written, and the design being 30-30 based. They really screwed up with the inability to rechamber 30-30’s, but that might be a safety issue with the fore thought of making high pressure loads for 360 that would blow up old 30-30’s. I see this round having some serious staying power after it’s gets some more exposure.

I would lean towards the .450 simply because I am already casting bullets that would work fantastically. Having a .450 lever gun built would be incredible. Think of it like a .45-70 special.

While I think there's no point to a straight wall cartridge season in Arkansas, I'll carry the 45/70. It'll make zero difference to the herd if it accounts for a deer in October or November. I got some Fort Scott rounds that are supposed to tumble on impact. That'll be interesting to see

Quick Google search says 400L is dropping less than an inch more than 360 at 200 yards but with a bigger bullet carrying about 200 ft/lb more energy. The 35 Rem ain't far behind the 360 either

That’s the problem with Googling. Try a ballistic calculator. Much better selection of 35 cal bullets with a high BC. The Hornady flex tip in 35 seems like the most obvious choice. But really it just all comes down to case size. 360 wins. If you want to toy around with shooting past 200 yards, the 360 is the equivalent of the “magnum” in this comparison.

You are deferring to the expert. You new round here? I’m sure those numbers are accurate for factory Remington ammo. When the lever evolutions come out with 165gr bullets pushing 2700fps with a .355 BC, it won’t even be close. Even the 200gr with the right charge will be a smoker.
