I've read on here about tweeking and modifying 25 horse motors, lining up at midnight to launch, fistfights over certain holes, boats being run through the WMA like its a NASCAR race and skybusting like know where else.
My question is, is it worth it? Is the hunting really that good? I've never hunted there before.
It sounds like more hassle and drama than it's worth.

i have seen guys drop their boats on the ramp and the next guy run it over trying to get his boat in as fast as he can... good hunting and a whole lot of sky busten... most of them feel that if you have a group working and they dont, lets shoot to mess it up.... most that i have met are nice, but there are a few of the a hole's out there

Dont hunt the Metro anymore but I can tell ya when its good then yea its some of the best there can be. And it can be amazing to see that many birds in one area. BUT.........in my opinion there are other flooded timber areas that are just as good and can hold as many ducks and be as good of hunting without all the other drama. To me its just a deal of the fact that its Bayou Meto and its the pinnacle to so many hunters and they have the right to feel that way and I am sure that its amazing to hunt. Everyone has their favorite place and the Metro is one for many many hunters.

I havent hunted it in quite some time and anymore I am more of a NE Arkansas green timber guy. A few less people and I can shoot 4 mallards there is stead of just 3

Hunted it for 35 years and will never go back. I cant tell you at the 30 to 40 mallard limits we have brought out of that place over the years. But it just aint worth it anymore. I tend to go off the beaten path these days. To many other places with a little less duck but more fun to hunt. let those idiots have it. Life is to short.

There is currently a movement by many of the BM regulars to ban spinners. The problems you mentioned will cease to exist once the spinners are gone. Everyone causing these problems are rookies who don't know how to kill a duck without a spinner and once spinners are banned, they will quit coming to BM.:thumb:

Good luck with that....I seriously doubt any of the WMA's will ever be like they used to be.
Now you get rid of the GPS as well and you may get somewhere

Duck hunting has become more popular in recent years, so crowding is just an issue we will have to deal with on public land. People new to the sport have just as much right to hunt public land as veterans do. That is just the way it is and all we can do about it is keep hunting public land following the ducks or pay for a private lease. I wish people would have more ethics and I hope the spinners get banned, but I don't think banning spinners will change the crowding issue on public land. Also, we had our best year ever this past season with the season before being the second best, so it can't be that bad. We just stay on the move until we find ducks. If someone beats us to a hole, we just go to another spot. Rookies are not going to be able to keep up as they probably do not know the refuge well enough to have multiple good spots.

That may be the dumbest thing I've heard in a long time! People setting up downwind skybusting swing ducks has been happening down there a long time before SWD's ever came about and will continue long after their gone. I don't care one way or another if they ban them, hunted more years without than with!

Browning,
No one has ever stated this as being one of the reasons that we want them gone. This is just one of swampcat's hard attempts at making light of something that he doesnt agree with.

swampcat is just sarcasticly repeating what some of the anti swd folks have said in other threads..
You caught me.:thumb:

Actually, I quit hunting BM several years ago due to to some of the very reasons stated in the OP. But, if you don't have anywhere else to hunt flooded timber, and you live relatively close, it can be worth the trip.

And for the record, I don't care if they ban spinners in BM - I just do not support a ban on all WMA's that don't have problems like most of the GTR WMA's. If it was up to me, there would be a lot more things banned on BM besides just a spinner.

I hope they ban them just to see what everybody cries about why the ducks didn't do right next year! Unless they do a nation wide ban ur pissing in the wind!
Thats right, ban them everywhere!!! And I am not whining because we do fine whether we use the spinners or not. Had good days both ways last year. I just think it takes away from the sport when you look out across the water and can see 7 spinners and 3 in one hole. Also, causes me to have one more thing to drag in and out with me.

Plenty more where these came from:

"literally had 5 guuy set up 50 yards from a nationaly known hole with three robo's and shoot swing ducks! when confronted they said that they knew how to hunt and did not need any advice!?!?"

"Oh how the story goes anyone that says a spinner is a tool, a helper. something that doesnt hurt, or the famous everybody else is using one is pretty much saying I WILL SHOOT SWING DUCKS!!!!!! I dont think there is a time that I say man those guys with that robo are sitting them down its always those guys with robos wont quit shooting are swing ducks"

"I can remember hunting before the spinner and you still had people set up close, but they couldn't get the ducks to come close enough to shoot a lot of times....now with the spinner, the ducks will dip for a second with no skill required and they get shot at when they do so"

"I had a group set up less 75 yds this am with 5 spinners and tree top the 4 ducks we saw !! When confronted they became very defensive !! Look I will teach anybody willing to learn how to hunt , but something got to give"

"It's not that its an unfair advantage, it's when jacklegs set up close, can't call and because they have a spinner, the ducks you break dip on the swing and they try and treetop em before they get right....Thats the problem"

Well put. Some people don't know any other way to hunt than that. It irritates me but what can you do? I've asked guys like that to turn them off and hunt with my group but it generally seems that they find that offensive. Lot of the time I just move on along to another spot and try to get away from the nonsense.

You just beat them to "MY" hole so they wanted to mess ur hunting up! Now that I think about it we had more trouble from "MY" hole guys than inexperienced hunters!

On most days I keep my slippers on and just ease into my woods by Humnoke, but sometimes its fun to go hunt the shootin grounds. Typically we don't put our spinners in the hole though. We either throw a fishing line up over a big limb and work them up and down...adds alot of realism. Or we like to make pole extensions for em and get some up in the trees. Last year our best hunt we had five spinners and finished multiple big flocks over the decoys. I'm not sure if it was the spinners or my highball routine that I worked on all summer with my RNT MVP. Either way I'm happy we had our vortex with us!!!!!!
