Both my boys have had an AR since they were 5. Still love to shoot them. My now 8yr old will be using one to deer hunt with this year. Great choice for a starter gun.

What price range are you trying to stay in ?

Somewhere around 600 to 800 hundred. He has a 223 rem but the stock is too long . I need something with an adjustable stock so he can grow into it. 501-230-0334

Just a suggestion but if he is not dragging it through sand and dirt, the forward assist and dust cover are not necessary. The DPMS sportical would be ideal for him. Last time I looked at walmart the had them for under $600 bucks.

Yeah but when he get a little older like 7, he'll realize for a little bit more $$ he wouldn't have to have a DPMS...

Palmettostatearmory.com still has their black friday sales going and you can put one together for <$575.

I prefer this upper, its a midlength, it gives you more handguard and some what better recoil.

Have you looked into collapsible stocks for his rifle? Blackhawk makes one for the Remmy 700, and I'm sure someone makes something similar for other models.

If you're interested in trading his .223 for an AR I might be interested in a trade. I like mine and want to keep a .223, but I'm thinking about freeing up some $$ for other projects. PM me if you're interested and we can discuss a trade.
