First deer I killed with a bow I put a 2 blade on a heavy arrow through both shoulder blades that passed through. the deer ran a long way but circled like a rabbit and dropped close to my stand.
Great article on information bias. The data is coming from a deer tracking dog service. I would only call in a tracker for a marginally shot deer. Easy track jobs a tracker would not be necessary. If you took this at face value a guy shot deer would lead to more recoveries than a heart shot deer. Bad data.
That chart was assembled (I believe) by a blood dog tracking group or individual. What one could take from this chart is that you don't have to bring in a blood dog for a deer shot in the shoulder.
