I wonder how accurate that is? I would think angles from entry to exit would come into play. But most of the reds would result in death I would think.

Most of the time it’s a no for me especially with a bow. I prefer the neck with a rifle.

I have shot a few in the shoulder - not saying always on purpose. My experience has been a greater percentage of finding a dead deer shot in the shoulder than shot through the guts.

That chart was assembled (I believe) by a blood dog tracking group or individual. What one could take from this chart is that you don't have to bring in a blood dog for a deer shot in the shoulder.

I’ve whacked a few dead in shoulder and can’t remember losing one.On 2 occasions there was very little blood because on no pass through but the deer didn’t go very far.One time I shot one right on the shoulder and it looked like my arrow barely penetrated but after recovery it had hit the other shoulder and bounced back out.Deer didn’t make it 60 yds but very little blood.

But that isn't hitting the shoulder blade there I don't think. So that's a good placement. It's hitting that bone that isn't a high percentage shot with most archery equipment.

But everyone is shooting 700 grain arrows with 200 grain 2 blade single bevel BH that bury 12 inches in the dirt after blowing thru at least 1 shoulder with modern archery tackle. So I need to disagree with ya on your assessment

I don’t like dropping them in their tracks with a shoulder or neck shot and stopping all blood flow. I want a lung shot so they’ll run a ways and get all the blood out of the muscles.
