    riffle uses 8mm mauser ... similar to a 30 - 06
i read that most people sight their 30 - 06 at 200 yards
what yardage should i sight my rifle for hunting in Arkansas ?

Sight it in at 25 yards, and if it's similar to a .30.06 using a 180 grain bullet then it will be dead on at 200 and 1 3/4" high at 100.

Get it deadly at 25 yards and then check it at 100 and then 200 yards, with a good rest.

This way you will be good to go almost to 300.

It completely dependns on what ranges you will be shooting, alot of people sight in for mpbr, but I dont like doing that because I like to know exactly where the bullet will hit every time incase I have to slide a bullet threw brush. I've never been to arkansas, but judging by some other posts on this site about the terrain i would probably go with a 100 yard zero and testing the bullets poi at 50, 150, 200, etc

I will agree. No need for a 200 yard zero if u don't shoot any farther than 100.

Basically what everyone else has said. Totally relative to where you hunt,
BUT as a general rule and certainly where I hunt in South Arkansas, it would
be my opinion to zero your rifle and scope @ 200 yards.

100 yards would be my 2nd option.

I would zero based on my shooting distance. I personally would zero @ 250 or 300 and shoot a long ways with it.
That 25yd deal is great, but you need to shoot it at 100, 200 and whatever your going to shoot. It can be off 1/4" left at 25yds and then at 200 it may be off inches. Something to think about.

If you hunt woods mostly sight it in at 100. If you hunt mostly on the edges of fields, sight it in at 200. Most common high power rifles used around here from 30-06, .308, 270, .300, 7mm, .243, if you sight in anywhere between 25 yards and 200 yards and shoot anywhere from point blank to 300+ yards and you aim at the heart, if you are 3 inches low, 6 inches high 12 inches back or 8 inches forward, you have a dead deer.
  8. My longest shot is bumpin 300, I shoot a .270 sited in an 1" high at 100 and I pretty much aim right at them out to about 230 then aim a little high further than that...

Get yourself a good scope with a BDC recticle and site in main cross at 100 yrds and your good. But be sure to shoot at various distances so you know your gun and what it and you are capable of doing
