If you were going to buy a new deer rifle what caliber would it be?
What do you have now? What kind of distances do you hunt?
For deer only hunting in AR only Id buy want a 308. (cheap plinking ammo and would drop anything around here with ease) I shoot a 270wsm though. Very flat shooting, great bean field type rifle and it will put the hammer down on any whitetail, caribou, mule deer etc. Only downside, if you dont reload, is the cost of ammo
For just Arkansas deer I would go with 7mm-08.
I agree with the 308, if not it is hard to beat a 30.06 or 44 mag. My next will be a 25.06 though.
Ive got both of what I would buy ....lol 257 weatherby mag and a 300 SAUM !!
AR from what I have seen over the years in here you have enough deer rifles to arm a small army soooo... ha
I love my 300 win mag. never had to track one and I can get shell most anywhere. wally world has federals for ~$15 and I am saving brass for reloadin.
why shoot that little round? 338-378 wby is the only way to go. :fit:
Dang, guess you don't want to have to do any tracking. Lol
Thutty thutty.
I don't need a new rifle.... if I was going to buy one I'd get the extreme.
.25-06.... less recoil than most, puts down our sized deer with ease and I don't throw away shoulder meat like the guys in camp shooting the latest, greatest "elk magnum".
.260 rem rifle or .460 S&W revolver.
308 all day
7mm mag or 25-06
35 whelen or 35 remington.......... old school!!!!
.243..... Never had one take a step
