hey guys, just wondering is there any specific brand/type ammo the mossberg ATR youth rifles prefer. seems like the Rem corlokt ammo is inconsistant in this gun.

Every rifle will like a different ammo...some may be alike, but you'll spend just as much money relying on someone else's guesses as just buying a few boxes and trying it yourself.

What caliber btw? Some calibers aren't offered in all brand choices.

Also make sure your scope is mounted right, good solid rest to shoot off and the shooter isnt flinching etc because almost all modern day rifles will give you groups that are plenty good enough for hunting with any ammo but they will shoot a certain kind of ammo best. I have always had good luck with federal but theres no telling what your particular gun will shoot best just pick another brand and try it out:twocents:

243, it will shoot about a 4" group @ 100 yards. It will kill a deer but I'm just not satisfied. I'm afraid what it will be at200"
  5. All my ammo is home grown........

We bought some silver box winchester at walmart and it grouped well. Wanna try some hornady superformance .243 but gotta finish off this box first.

In .243 any load that gets the 85gr Barnes TSX going 3200+ fps will be devastating on whitetails and extremely accurate.
