Does anyone use weighted inserts for carbon arrows? I priced some and they seem a bit high for what they are. I've thought about experimenting with other materials. Has anyone tried doing that and were you successful?

I use weight tubes in mine. I got mine from 3 rivers archery and I think I paid about $12 for a dozen. I'm sure you could come up with something, but it'd be hard to beat them I think.

I also use the ones from 3rivers (nice and easy....and I also use the weight tubes. My carbon arrow weight comes in at 630 grains...heavy, but thats the way I like it.

If you are talking inserts specifically...you could glue a nail to the back of a regular aluminum insert...just cut the head of the nail off and you could epoxy the nail to the back of the insert...this would keep your weight up front for that high % FOC.

Also, I have heard of guys using weedeater chord inside the arrow shaft to increase overall arrow weight (not FOC). Good Luck!

Thanks for your help guys. I'd been given a way higher price than $12 for a dozen so it may not be a big deal after all. I had thought about putting some (extra) Cooper wiring inside them with larger wire at the front for FOC weight.

I like to tinker a little when it comes to things like this. Got some granddad in me I guess.

Sometimes that's the best way to do it....just make sure you figure out way to secure it up front to so it doesn't slide towards the knock
