I was reading an old AGFC magazine the other day about Walleye & Sauger fishing in the cold winter months below locks & dams on the Arkansas River.

Anybody here ever do that?

I tried it thursday evening at lock and dam 5 in redfield. Got a couple bites but didn't catch any. Saw a couple guys catch a few. I broke a jig off on nearly every cast till I figured out where to cast...
I haven't been this year, but have sauger fished below the dams on the Arkansas river in the past., Never seen or heard of any walleye in the Arkansas River, but Greers Ferry, Ouachita and the lakes on the White river have walleye. I'd figure you could catch some walleye and/or sauger in either Lake Ouachita, Degray, Lake Katherine or on the rivers below or above them. May even be some in Dequeen or Greeson, I don't know for sure, but there should be. Small jigs or grugs mostly. Sauger are good eat'n, like walleye only they don't get as big.
There is a post about sauger fishing on down the thread. It is a blast and you should give it a try. There are walleye in the river, not like they are in some lakes but they are there.
