Walk-in public hunting?

I've been duck hunting for a few years now and since I don't have a boat or my own land I've relied on the courtesy of others to either let me hunt their walk-in holes or take me out on a boat. Are there any WMAs that have walk-in hunting spots? The closer to Conway the better but I'm willing to drive a few hours. I'm fairly young and in shape so I could potentially walk a good ways in if I needed to.

And I've read all the talk about how crazy the WMAs are getting but I'm addicted to duck hunting and I'm willing to battle the crowds if I have to. :fight:

there's a couple at belle slough and harris brake but you need to check the water levels the beaver trails are deeper than you can stand.
Longbell in bayou meto. Bell slough. Lake Conway. Harris Brake
Ed Gordon is right up the road from you. Not a tun of ducks but its close to you.
There are some GREAT places to walk into on Petit Jean River WMA. Get a good topo map and you will find them.
Nimrod WMA has a lot of walk in areas.
agfc.com will give you all the info u will need.

Well thanks! :thumb:
I miss it sometimesl. If it weren't for having to work at poverty pay levels I would likely still be there. But the G&F don't pay too well if you dont have a college degree.............or even if you have one. lol
Careful at Bell Slough walked into a hole that went from ankle to neck deep in a step. Was real crappy and ended my scouting trip real quick a lot of ducks coming off the lake though.

Most of ed gordon is walkable when the water is under 7 foot on the guage. If you are willing to walk at max 3 or 4 miles you can get to the middle of the place and back. there are good holes that only walkers can get to that are good. Bell slough is spotty with regards to ducks but a lot closer than the ed. Be at either on a lucky day and you have potential to tear them up. Just keep high spirits and the duck gods on your side. i have gotten lucky at both this season, almost reaching my goal of one duck of every species. Its not about guantity, but quality. hunting public you win some and lose most!

Cool Kevin, out of curiosity what species are you lacking?
Theres some pretty good walk in spots on the cache.
Thanks for all the response guys! I've got plenty of options to choose from. I should have asked this question back in November!
i only have to kill a hen hooded merganser, a golden eye, and a blue wing. going for species is pretty fun because of the variations in places i go from the ar river to the white river and definatly at lake conway. just wish i could mount them all!
I hear ya! All I'm currently missing is a goldeneye myself. Probably going to be waiting a while for that one.
If you ever make it to Harris Brake be careful that is a dangerous place in certain areas. There are areas that are 20' wide and 10'+ deep. Went out there during deer season just killing time and found some spots that was a little scary put it this way I haven't been back by myself. If i'm not mistaken there was a duck hunter that drowned out there in the walk in area a couple years back.

It can be a good area to hunt when they are there.
