guy I know has some creek frontage, 5 or 6 deeper holes. Said I can fish it anytime, just holler. I ain't been able to get away.
an old Gf offered me to buy 60 acres and a house adjacent to the place she lives on near crossroads (quitman). The 60 ac property borders the cadron. Not sure how I feel about living next to an old girlfriend, though. When we dated many moons ago, we fished that stretch of the creek along with several ponds on her property. The creek treated us well but the ponds were were the biggest fish were, and they were easy catch being that 2 of them were a real pain (literally) to get to, meaning I doubt anyone else had been there much. Took us about 10 minutes on ATV to get to a field edge, and from there about 2 hours of stomping through the thickest, hardest terrain I've ever hiked, to be able to fish. I am not sure what I hung, but my rod/reel and the 40 lb braid were of no match. Probably big flathead is my guess. The way I figured it, the one pond was once the creek and when the creek changed it's course, leaving a pond. Dunno, but I that's one thing I miss is being able to go up there & fish, hunt, and just, camp & relax.
Wife's family had 78 acres on the Sylamore, but it sold last week. You don't know how incredibly sad that makes me. Her family has no use for it, and I didn't have the half million dollars to buy it either. There's just no way possible and I watched them sign it over to investors. It was all "I" had, as far as a relaxing outdoor place to go, away from the crowds. Wife didn't see it that way, she don't do much outdoorsy stuff anyway, and she'd happy with that so it don't bother her any. My brother and I, as did dad before he passed, all LOVED fly fishing the holes for brownie bass and whatever else would eat. Occasionally a rainbow would run up there in the winter after a high water event. Bream galore. There is a cave on the one section that is only accessible at really low water (which we have this year), and I wanted to go explore where it goes, but alas, that can't happen now. New owners will likely build cabins and whatnot, as I'm told. They are a group of investors out of Fayetteville--I think the same family that bought out the Angler's swinging bridge resort & campground, which backs directly up to that 78 acres on the North side. It's depressing honestly. I think I'll go work in the shop to get it off my mind.
