Today I took my 84yo father to the V.A. in Little Rock for a eye appointment. We live over a hour away and when we got to the V.A. my father had to go inside and pee, so I let him out and went and parked the truck. I was to meet him inside the V.A outside of the men's bathroom. Like I said my father is 84yo.disabled vet with a 100% disability.
It was raining and by the time I parked the truck and walked to the entrance where they were testing temps for "kung flu" I had my mask on... While my temp was being tested when the man ask me what I was at the V.A. for... I said to take my father to his app., the man ask where my father was and I said he had already went inside because he had to pee and I was to meet him inside and go onto his appointment...

The man said, he couldn't let me in without the person who had the app. with me... I said, look my father is 84y/o and in really bad health, was expecting me to meet him inside, didn't know where I was parked, was a 100% disabled vet & didn't have a phone with him and I needed to go in and find him and let him know what was going on..

He motioned to a female V.A. cop and she came over and I told her my story... SHE TOLD ME SHE COULDN'T LET ME INTO THE V.A. and I would have to wait in the truck and my father would just have to find where I parked, when he finished with his appointment... For me to go into the V.A I would have to enter with him !!!

I thought about all of this, and I told the lady cop that she needed to call her supervisor. She refused !!! I then told her she needed to call for more enforcement because I was going to go in and inform my father what was going on and where I was parked at, so he could find me.
She got on her walkie and called for enforcement, several minutes later 4 V.A. cops came outside and ask what the problem was.. I told them, and then insisted on going in, with police escort was fine but I had to go in and inform my father.
After a couple of minutes another officer, who I expect was the chief came out and I repeated to him what the problem was....He said if I was sure my father was in there they would escort me in, but he had better be there !!!
At this time (over 20min later) I said fine, and I went in with a police escort, went to the men's restroom and there was my father waiting on me. I pointed to him and told the officers that was him and they said "Have a nice day" and turned and went back to the front, and my father and I went along to his appointment...

The reason I'm posting this is to tell anyone accompanying someone to the V.A. in Little Rock to make sure you go in with the person with the appointment to avoid all of the trouble that we had to go through.

Once you told your story the first time they should have provided an escort.... That whole deal was uncalled for.
I would complain to the veteran representative in Tom Cottons office.... If they get several similar complaints, I guarantee something gets done.

I use to defend the VA. Over the last few years I have lost just about all hope that any competency, common sense or give a damn even exists there anymore. There are still a few good ones there but they are very few. This goes for the medical and the everything else side of the VA.

My husband's parents died within a few weeks of each other; his father, who was retired from the army, died first. My husband had just gotten his mom's widow's benefits started when she died suddenly. He had the devil of a time getting her benefits stopped; one stupid woman he talked to told him she was sending him a form and for him to "get your mother to sign it" o_O ; evidently the military doesn't require everyone who works for them to actually have a brain LOL. After about 4 months of this he got Sen. Tim Hutchinson's office involved, it was taken care of quickly. I'm sure Tom Cotton's staff would be even better.

Yes... It's amazing what just a phone call from a Senator, or even a Congressman, can accomplish...
my father was in the VA and I had an issue with one of his doctors... Tried different routes of communication at the facility... Department heads, Chief of Staff, the front office of that facility's Admin... No one would talk to me let alone return my calls.
I got home late one evening after visiting... Completely aggravated thinking about it during the drive home. Walked in my door and called the DC phone number of my local congressman. He actually returned my phone call an hour later... The next morning I had the hospital administrator calling me personally...
Things got resolved very quickly after that.

I have tried get in several times see va dr all they do is give you the run around so had go see one them walk clinics just a joke here in Arkansas.
Next time go to the ER, guys that never used the VA before got started simply by going through tbe ER route! I took one veteran who had never went to the VA (with his dd214)that nearly cut a finger off, took him to the ER they admitted him and he has been a patient there ever since! When covid started, it was a mess! I have gone to “Urgent Care” facilities 3 times since January and the VA paid for it every time!

But first, I would call his Father. Lynn Cotton is the Chairman of the Arkansas Veteran's Commission.

Thanks guy's !!!
I have called Senator Tom Cotton's offices in D.C. and in Jonesboro and left messages. I also typed and sent a text to both offices of the incident to inform him on what took place yesterday...

I did try to contact Lynn Cotton's office but a automated operator came on the line and said the # had been changed, disconnected or is no longer in service.. I will continue to try to find a number to contact Mr. Lynn Cotton, I just think these folks needs to know to maybe keep some other Vet from going through this sort of thing..

See there are all kinds of things this site is good for besides just hunting, the members here have a vast wealth of knowledge when all combined in one place, its very powerful !!! :)

Thanks again !! :usa:

I just contacted rep. French Hill to let them know what happened at the V.A. in Little Rock yesterday...
I also just called Ark. Dept. of Vet. Affairs and left a message with them, too.
I do fully understand that yesterday has already passed and we came through it alright... But, maybe this can/will help keep some other Vet from the same hassle as we experienced...
Our Vet's sacrificed so much for us and our country, the least we can do is our part to try to make it a little easier for them in whatever way's we can !
Thank You, to all of the Vet's that served ! :usa:

Only thing that would help me and some others would be designated parking for motorcycles only...we had that before they put in the solar panels! I hate it when the eye clinic days and people back into your m/c and knock it over or break off your spotlights! Really pissed me off last time! P/S They are now letting the medical sciences people drive through VA outpatient parking! That sux!

A number of years back, my parked car was run over by a dog drunk army recruiter in a government car, he fled the scene and would have got away, but a guy witnessed it , and waited for me to come out. We got the guy, and submitted the paperwork claim for the damages to the army.

After about 6 months they still had not paid off, I tried our local congressman with no luck, so then I got in touch with Mark Pryor's office I believe it was, and they had me my money in short order.

Come to find out, the drunk recruiter was from the same small town I was from, I kinda half way knew the cat.

Yeah my sled suffered a broken turn signal and cracked spotlight! Cant find the replacements without buying both sets! Worst part is picking up your baby with a blown out shoulder joint! There are still a few young vets around that notice the PH tag and vietnam sticker.

I just got a return call from Sen. Tom Cotton's office "Patricia" and I told her the experience we had with the V.A. Wednesday..
She said she fully understood why I was complaining about this incident.
She also said they "Cotton's office" would contact the hospital administrator and see that this is corrected !
At the very least, posting signs that a patient's supporter must accompany the patient at the covid-19 testing location to enter the building..
She "Patricia" was a very nice lady, who seemed to understand and was truly concerned about the issue at hand.

Thanks again, for all the great info from the members on this site on how to contact and handle this and any future problems with the V.A. !!!:usa:
