I've got a long shaft 42" that I want to cut down. Anyone done this before? What tools are needed? Any tips would be appreciated. If there is anybody out there willing to trade short for long I would take that as well. It is a MinnKota 40lb foot controlled.

I didn't shorten the shaft but I did take the head part and place on another shaft and control arm (hand control motor and propeller and put on foot control)

cut the shaft, I used a hacksaw and rotated slowly to avoid cutting the wire, then I un hooked the wires in the head ran then through a PVC sleeve coated with jb water water weld....inserted the two orginal piece of shafts back together, never had a problem, with it
