Sylamore Creek

The creek is high and was somewhat muddy after the hard rain yesterday. Without any additional hard rain it should be cleared up and the fishing should be good. :thumb:
How does a flood improve fishing? Basically it improves the supply of groceries for just every critter and fish that lives in the creek. It is a somewhat long term effect when food sources are more plentiful for 3-4 years after a good flood or two.
I went by the boat ramp at Allison, Sunday and the ramp that allowed a boat access to the creek is washed out. The ramp into the river seems to still be in good shape but the water is rather swift and a fellow has to be careful there. The creek has a beautiful blue color to it but the river is still somewhat muddy looking. :thumb:

It also restocks some smaller streams and lakes.:thumb: Fish usually spawn with greater success in high water.
As far as improving the fishing, the high water provides some new structure with the addition of fallen trees, logs, brush, etc. Plus, areas that may have been silted are renewed by a scouring effect that can return a gravel bed to a better condition for both fish and fishermen.
Sounds like you had a good trip. Were you fishing out of a boat or wading? Any big sm?
Sylamore creek is five miles north of Mountain View, AR in Stone County. There is a south and north branch of Sylamore Creek. On South Sylamore Creek you can wade or use a small boat if you want to move a little faster. North Sylamore Creek is much more shallow and at normal water levels it is 99% wade fishing. Both creeks are excellent fishing for Rock Bass and Smallmouth Bass, sometimes a trout in the early spring while the water is cool. Also right around the intersection of Sylamore Creek and the White River is some fair Black Bass fishing.

i was wading and i caught a couple of smallmouths that would go 2an half pounds bout 16in long, most the smallmouth i caught this weekend were about 12-14in long. I don't ever remember a trip were I caught that many big smallmouth usally the majority of em are 10 or so inches long with and ocassional 12-14. Its always been my dream to catch a trophy smallmouth, maybe one of these days. My brother caught a 4pounder out of there bout 10yrs ago.

i use a 6'6 shakespeare rod medium action with a shimano spinning reel, 8lb test line. but an ultra light pole would do just as good. anything that mimicks a crawdad and has a similar color i.e gitzits,crankbaits ect. will catch you a smallmouth
