During the past couple of weeks & especially last weekend we have encountered many more cottonmouths than usual. Our lease is in Dallas Cty.
around the Sparkman area.Last Sunday alone we came across 4 of these good size nasty, aggressive critters. Though rattlesnakes are aplenty on our lease we really haven't encountered any so far whiledoing stand work.
I've heard from others around the MAlvern area that they too have recently encountered more cottomouths than normal. A word of caution :
Please be careful out there. Stay healthy.

My stepson had to remove the head on a cottonmouth Monday while we were squirrel hunting. Just be careful about shooting those 12 point bucks in velvet.:fit::poke:
I had a friend killed a 4ft timber rattler on the lease about 2 weeks ago. And cotton mouths are a plenty around here.
a buddy of mine saw 30 cottonmouths last weekend while bush hoggin
I havent really seen that many cotton mouths round this year as usual but i have seen more rattlesnakes this year than the last 3 combined. Ive seen 5 so far this year and 3 were within 100 yards of the house and the smallest of them was 4 and half foot long
I saw 3 cottonmouths last saturday at camp, and i was not really looking for any since i was on the 4-wheeler. One of them is no longer with us thanks to Mr. Glock
I kilt a tiny little copperhead that slithered out from under the neighbors refridgerator last night. He don't do snakes and about flipped out until I "removed it." After that, the beers were on the house! :thumb:
These cool nights, just go out around 10:00 a.m. till noon its a forsure deal
I don't see many snakes while walking through the woods.......but I don't look for 'em either:fit::fit::fit:

I'd rather not see it coming.
noticed the same thing....

We down round Sparkman too, and I just stated to one of our members that the number of snakes are on the rise.....been down there 3 years and never seen a snake...Labor day weekend saw at least 2 rattlers and 1 cottonmouth...got up close and personal with the cottonmouth as we stared each other down....couldn't slap leather on 'em cause my hands where full and I was pretty hot/tired........always wear my 16" of snake protection no matter the state.

I usually take a half case or so, just to be nice to the host. If snakes keep showing up, I may not have to take any for a while! :chug:
My son found a little snake of some kind underneath their basketball goal stand the other day and I introduced him to the shovel (The snake... not my boy)

We have a pretty hard and fast... you slither... you die... rule around here.

If any of you ever find yourself at my house I would walk upright and not slither around on the ground or you might find yourself in a bad situation. :fit:

Man, it's a good thing I got shoulders! I'll try not to slither too much...:uhoh:
I walked up on two cottonmouths yesterday. They were about 5 feet apart under a big whiteoak tree. I have seen more of them on our lease this year than ever. Only two rattlesnakes this year and a handfull of copperheads, but they ought to be on the move with this change in the weather.
snakes and gators...talk about two things I hate with a passion.

I'm pretty excited about hanging stands this weekend but I don't want to get bit while I'm over 30 minutes from medical care.

My stand sits in between two creeks but I've yet to see one down there. If I do you can beat it'll be a dead one if it doesn't kill me first.
I jumped one cotton mouth and one baby copperhead both got away alive but we have been lucky so far and am not going to work any more brush till after the first of the year time to hunt
I guess ole Stealth is getting to me, as I was taking a short cut to camp outside of Jersey Friday I saw a dang good Pigmy rattler in the road, I drove away with it still intact- we did however seperate heads off a few moccasins saturday at camp though
Now you're just trying to get Stealth riled up.
