I'm gonna try my hand at cat fishing this year. I didn't do much fishing last year with work and my son taking most of my time. I have never been cat fishing before but I see people down the dam that have luck and I want to know what weight of sinker is enough to hold my bait in place on the bottom below a damn? I have a ugly stik tiger lite rated for 1-5 ounces but I have never maxed it out. I have fished for stripers on the north shore Atlantic coast and got away with 2-3 ounce ounces with cut bait before. Is this heavy enough fishing in current?

I don't think I could cast that much weight with my rod. Not to mention adding a big chunk of bait. Maybe il focus on fishing the slack water and coves behind the jetties. That way I dot need much weight
