Tie a loop in one end to put your foot in and then run it through the eyes of the springs a couple times. Put the loop on your foot and pull up on the oher end til the spring eyes come together enough to put the spring hook over the arm of the spring. Repeat the process with the other side.
When I was younger I always set them by hand, however I did put a safety in place until I was ready to walk away also. Later life life I did have a pair of metal tong like things and worked pretty good.
My brother-in-law use to be the same way...set them by hand. Never ceased to amaze me...stand there and watch him grunt and groan compressing those springs while I stood there with a rope. He just wouldn't use one.
I always squeeze my springs before i leave the house and put safety latch on. Most time i put one spring on hitch of truck and push down and hook safety hatch. Its easier to puch one side down for me. I have been setting the 330 a long time. Take hatch off when you are thru and walk away. Never fool with it without hatch on.
