I know you really work at it and just wondering how it was this year for you, maybe you will give me some hope?
I have had a strange season.

I have heard less gobbling than ever before but I have seen a bunch of birds. I have been hunting the same bird for the last week and I have seen him every day without getting a shot. He is either very lucky or very smart.
I have had the sights on him 4 different times and passed waiting on a better shot. (I hate to cripple a bird)

A good hunter would have tagged out with all of the chances that I have had, but I managed to screw it up several times.

I did kill a decent bird in Winona.

I have hunted public land exclusively and have not seen or heard another hunter in the woods. I hunted the Ozarks opening weekend and I have been in Winona since then.

Why don't you come over here and kill this bird for me Friday? I can't hunt in the morning but I can show you right where he is. He is a BIG old tom and only about a 3/4 mile walk to where he is. I'm going to give him one more chance after work today.

Good luck as good things come to those who wait! I bet ya get him this evening!
I didn't get the big bird but I got one of his buddies!

3 longbeards came in without making a sound about 6:30.
I think that the BIG bird was in the bunch but I took the first one that showed me his head.

10" beard.....19 lbs.......7/8" spurs.

Great way to end a long hard season!

Pics later.

Bubba................Call me when you can.

You can't beat that congrats!
I can give you a little report, FL was on fire early and we did good, kilt both birds opening weekend. LA was slow, never really got started right, the place I hunt in the last 25 years has never not provided several longbeards killed, this year zero first time ever. The few days I hunted here at home they have been pretty quiet. TN was pretty good, went over there for a weekend and killed a nice longbeard, KS was smoking my crew filled our tags out there fast, Headn to MO this afternoon then maybe one more trip somewhere later on in May.

How was it hunting those swamp birds down in Fl.?

That is the only N.A. species that I have not hunted.

How were the bugs and snakes down there?

Thanks!
I'm almost happy that it is over.
It has definately been a crazy season.

Manybeards........You have hunted at least 4 states this year, can you give us your report?
I actually hunted 5 different states this year (MS,AL,AR,OK,KS). I was fortunate enough to kill 6 longbeards and watch 4 more die right beside me. It all started off down in MS I hunted 3 days and never heard a bird except 1 jake that came in. I guess my hard headed self should have listened to ya. Bye the way guys I talked to Selfbow a few times on this trip and he's a great guy for ya'll that don't know him. Then I was off to AL for 3 days. In AL I struck out again, I heard turkeys gobble good on the roost 2 days, but shut up completely at flydown (henned up). I did call up 3 jakes, but passed. PS note to self (bikes dont like water :smack:) Then when the youth season rolled around in AR timing was right I carried my 9 yr nephew and he killed a jake on Sat. and a longbeard on Sun. (this was my primary goal going into season to get him on a turkey) After he killed his turkey I was able to locate 3 more to be ready for our opener. Well both days of opening weekend I had gobblers about to do the deed and had someone walk up and scare them off. So then I was off to the west to let some of the people clear out of the woods. Went to OK and killed 2 birds in 2 days, Then KS 2 birds in 2 days. Plus had a hunting partner who also killed birds out west (the turkeys were henned up bad, but the open terrain allowed for good setups). Then back to AR I killed a longbeard last friday and then another today in Drew county. Both weeks during the week, I went everyday after work in Grant county and never heard a bird (this was the biggest dissapointment of the season) I knew there were a few turkeys being I would see a track from time to time, but couldn't pattern them, never found any scratching and couldn't even get a hen to respond to my calling (4 wheeler tracks everywhere). I hunted hard this year and would probably rank the season as a 8 overall, 3 turkeys with 1.5 spurs  is just something I might never do again. Hope everyone else had a great season I'm worn out and looking forward to getting some sleep.:snooze:

Selfbow, Never have seen a snake down there in two season of hunting, no bugs to speak of, we hunt a big cattle/citrus ranch.

Manybeards, That's a great year you have had for some with some hoss birds, I ended up with 5 hard earned longbeards, should had a couple more here and there if things woulda went right, but all in all I would rate it about a 6, Me and my truck are about wore out!....Mr. Visa must love turkey season cause that fuel bill I gots to pay is uggggggggggly!

I had a great season. I was able to call up my cousins first turkey and he killed it up on Buffalo River. Then we went to Kansas and had an awsome experience. I killed two longbeards in Kansas one with my wife present. I couldn't ask for a better season. Our whole bunch tagged out in Kansas.
