Sandhill Crane Outfitter Suggestions

409 Views 13 Replies 9 Participants Last post by  Saltydog
A group of us have talked for many years about traveling to West and going on a sandhill crane hunt. I’d like to book a good hunt with some reputable people but don’t necessarily want to pay an arm and a leg for the lodge and all the amenities.

Does anyone have any experience with an outfitter/guide or have any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

I've killed bunches of cranes in Saskatchewan while freelancing up there.
Just find a flight path and get under them worked well for us there.
The only outfitted hunts I've heard of in the states were in the Texas/OK panhandle area, but I got nothing for a recommendation.
You want to try something wild, look into a swan hunt in NC, or a sea duck hunt in Maine. That's pretty different too.

Look up Crane Wreckers out of Kansas. I use to have the owners number in my phone but can't find it now. I met him on a hog hunting trip several years ago, super nice guy and apparently one of the best Sandhill outfitters there is. I haven't made it out there to hunt with him yet but he has sent me several pics and videos over the years and it sure seems like a heck of a lot of fun.

My youngest had a great hunt near Wichita Falls last year. I’ve requested contact info from him and will forward it ASAP.

That's Mr Rusty's pet.
@Mr. Rusty would have trained him to push a lawnmower if he had him....
