Recommendations for a kid hunt?

973 Views 9 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  rusty
My son is 8 years old and wants to go duck hunting BAD! BM is the only place I've hunted- with the exception of occasions when I have been invited to hunt as a guest on a lease or two. I do not feel comfortable taking my son along on one of our typical trips to BM (due to some special needs), so I've been looking for an alternative.

I had planned to rent a blind from a farmer out of Stuttgart, but that's not coming together. I don't exactly have a lot of connections for something like this- and don't know where to start looking, so I'm needing recommendations from you guys. I'm in Fordyce, but willing to make a drive for a good hunt with my boy. He's got a shotgun, some steel shot, and some waders- he just needs a place to use it all!

Any ideas/ leads/ names and numbers?

Thanks!

lots of guide services could cader to him and really make it enjoyable....other than that you may want to look at somewhere with walk in areas or even fourwheeler or boat if i had a lease I'd give ya a key....took some young green horns with us this weekend had a blast....love to see them eyes light up and jaws drop....Raft Creek at Georgetown has drawed hole and one specifaclly for handicap allowing fourwheelers and i think it has a small blind....best thing to do is call AGFC and ask about handicap access.....but im sure somebody on here has a rice field somewhere a kid could sit on a levee and have a good time
Thanks. I should clarify- his special needs are not physical in nature. He is autistic and MR. I say that with reluctance because I've come across some folks (none here) who have frowned on the idea of him hunting. But he is very conscientious about safety, and he absolutely loves to hunt EVERYTHING.
theres nothing wrong with that....looks like hes already got the best thing goin and that a dad who cares.....man honestly....get him im a big area....where he can see the ducks

Look hear I'm not scared to invite or to take a kid hunting!!! I'm not but 26 years old and I'm the youngest of 3 boys and I never got that opportunity to take a younger kid hunting!!! But I do take kids now and would love to have y'all come!!!
Just an update.

First of all, thanks again to all who contacted me with tips, leads, and invites.

I was able to take my son on a hunt with 2 other father/son pairs- all friends. No dead ducks that day, but it was an awesome hunt. We had a great time and now my boy is hooked. He loved the whole experience. I've got a new duck hunter on my hands. It looks like I also have him lined up for a youth hunt next Saturday.

He told me he wanted to get a woodie drake for his first duck. I'm thinking we should try for something a little slower and easier to shoot, but he is always surprising me. He'll probably do it again and I hope he does! :thumb:
do not forget about the youth hunt this weekend!!
