random question about zones

For those of you that are like me and live or hunt right on a boundry line for hunting zones. I live and hunt mostly right at the boundry line between zone 7 and zone 11. As I sit at work here today I was thinking. Last year my neighbor shot a deer in his pastor, from a stand he has not to far from his house. It ran across the road and died in our pastor. He shot it in zone 11 and because it crossed hwy 10 it died in zone 7. So with that said what zone should it be tagged in? With the new rules being a 6 deer total but three in a zone thing. Just wondering what your input is on it. I know where he tagged it just wondering what you guys would have done. Or with that said what is the RIGHT thing to do if it is shot in one zone and dies in another?

I say that's almost up to the hunter. It's a good question though. What is legal? You have to tag it where it lies. So I'm guessing zone 11?

makes since, I even looked it up in the regs but I can't see anything about that issue
Fine line of walking there! I would call GF to see what they say!
We kill 2 or 3 deer every year at our camp that the hunter is in one county and the deer end up being shot in another county. County line is our western boundary, National Forest on the other side of the line. Anyway, in every case we put it to the folks on the phone at the Game & Fish check in: what county do we check the deer in? It's got to be kind of a game to see what they say, we've never got a definite answer from them, it always comes down to them finally telling us to just pick a county.
That's the beuaty of zone hopping. It allows too many deer to be taken from a small area. It may not be as big a deal in your zones, but it needs to be stopped in zn.s 4+5.
What if the deer you shoot in the zone you are hunting is legal for that zone, but ends up in the other zone and is not legal for that zone.:head:
The main thing is to tag it and be honest.

thats the question, what is the "Honest" and "Truthfull" answer? Game and Fish kinda laughted when I called them and asked. He actually said "Honestly, I don't know. I will try to find out and call you back." That was a week ago.
What ever zone you and the deer are in when you squeeze the trigger or release the arrow....but that may just me....

Let's just go to a 2 deer limit (does only) and you can't hunt outside of the zone you live in and that stop all that zone jumpin'......
I am not refering to zone jumpin guys. I am talking about a guy that was honest to god doing the right thing. It was his third and final deer for the zone. He was planning on stopping after it. Even though all he has to do is cross the road and he is in a different zone. He just wanted to be honest and completely legal so we called the game and fish. The guy honestly did not know what to tell us. Then he said tag it how you want to and I will get back on you with the answer. Like I said that was over a week ago. He still has no answer.

That is the correct answer to this question the way it has been explained by a WO buddy of mine. The tagging of a kill is determined by where the "Attempt to Take" took place at. The question was brought up a few years ago because I was hunting a stand that was basicly on a corner where a WMA that has a 4x4 slot, the NWR which has no APR's and private that is under the 3 point APR. The particular tree that I was hunting from was on private land but the property lines for the other two were no more than 2 feet in either direction from the bottom of the tree, so I ask him if I could go by the 3 different reg's depending upon which area the deer was located. His answer was that I was "Attempting to Take" from a stand on private lands, thus I had to go by the reg's that applied to where I was hunting!
Thanks 4hunting, I finally got an answer. I appreciate it.

For those of you that are sending me PM's, you know who you are, and calling me a zone jumper and that I don't need to kill 6 deer in an area well you can all ......................................................... I have NEVER killed more than three deer in a season. Even if I did none of you should care. Its my choice to make. But if you would take the time and actuall pay attention to what you have read you would see that it was NOT me that was hunting. Even if it was you would see that the deer would have been number 3. So learn how to read and stop trying to be a WO when you are not. What was done was LEGAL no if ands or buts about it. So leave it at that. Thank you

the reply was not pointed in your direction. It was torwards the PM's I keep getting. :banghead:
Just for the record I haven't pm'd anybody about zone hopping and I don't care if anyone does it as long as it's legal. I just wish they'd make it to where if you kill 5 or 6 deer the extras would have to come from a 5 or 6 deer zone.
I sent a pm to ya.....whatcha gonna do about it........???????
