I took the .243 out this evening even though I should have been at home with my feet propped up as I've pulled or torn a hamstring. I've taken a bottle of Ibuprofen, a bottle of Aleve and 3 different muscle relaxers since saturday morning and went through a bottle of Absorbine Veterinary Liniment and absolutely nothing as done a thing to reduce the pain much but I was about to go stir crazy as heck. So this is what I was able to do today after two days of rest and different drugs. I'm not much of a drinker but I'm about ready to try a 30 pack or so of beer....I'm hurtin'.

58 gr Hornady V-Max - 42.5 gr Reloader 15

same bullet - 43 gr same powder

same bullet - 43.1 gr IMR4064

same bullet - 43.6 gr IMR4064

I think I've got it narrowed down to a load to prefect for a coyote load.

In the first pic I put the 1st shot in the black but wasn't rested good and had a lot of movement. I re-adjusted and got a rear rest to make things a little more solid and the rest of the shots where taken that way

Here's some from Saturday, with the new 30/06 Handi-rifle w/3X12X50 IRC Barska scope.....shooting 165gr factory Winchester loads...........

25 yards......

The very bottom hole is shot #1......
#2 is the one Dead on the centerline, right side of the orange 10 ring.....
#3, #4, #5, & #6..are right together, top right of the orange 10 ring
#7..is 'off' to the top right.......that's when the buffalo knat bit me in the corner of my eye:banghead: and I had to quit cause my eyes were watering so bad:smack:

Don't think it is too bad, for not bore sighting the scope before I shot it!!!

That's pretty good, I was shooting 100 yards. Is that the distance you where shootin?

Keep us up to date on the Barska, I 've heard really good things or really bad things about them but not much in the middle.

That's pretty good possum!!
I Was shooting at 25 yards!! I hadn't bore-sighted the scope, and that's an easy way to get em on Paper, fairly quick!! Besides, shooting an '06 at 25 yds, you will be about 1 inch high at 100 yds, and dead or at 200yds!!! Been sighting my '06s like that since I was a kid...wel since I was old enough too:biggrin: that's the way Dad did it, and it always worked for him!!

Will do!! So far, I am tickled..if it will hold up after another couple hundred rounds between now and season.......I realy think the lighted reticle will be great in lowlight conditions!!

HG, I've already had a chance to sight the .243 in. The factory loaded Winchester Supreme 55gr BST were dead on @ 100 yards but didn't group any better or as well as the 42.5 gr of Reloader 15 and as you can tell the hand loads are a bit hotter.

Now I'll work that load up and down a tenth of a grain at a time to see if I can tighten it up any. I have already shot 42 grain and the 43 grain load is close to the max load of 43.4 according to my One book/One Caliber reloading manual. I may try a load closer to max but I don't think I'll accomplish much because it seems most of the bullet weights I've loaded for grouped better .5 to 1 grain under the max, the personal experience only of course.

Thanks 10pointman, but I'm still looking for that 5 shot 1 big hole group. That's the fun of loading your own....or so I'm told. :thumb:

Thanks:biggrin: But got to give the rifle some credit too:up:
A firearm is only as good as the person behind it controlling the trigger. JMHO

Looks like fun!! I shoot the 58 grain V Max bullets in my 243 for coyote loads. I don't remember the load at this time, but they chrono just under 3600 fps. They'll tear a coyote just about in half!
