I hope when it comes time for the public meetings this year that all the bowhunters remember how the G&F opened the flood zones so the gunhunters could get the last few gun hunts in and then immediately closed it to bowhunters. Please do not mistake this for a bowhunters against gunhunters thread- IT IS NOT!"-. This is a thread to try and get all the bowhunters to stand up at these meetings and voice their opinions. This is us against the self serving decisions made by the G&F. Disclaimer-- I have nothing against hunting with a gun, I do it occasionally myself. Please do not turn this into one of THOSE threads.

It would be nice if they still had a public meeting right here where all of this affected directly, right in the middle of the flood prone region. I still don't know why they stopped having their meetings at Brinkley, the regional office for East Central Arkansas, but I have my thoughts on that, this is where all the issues are at, now & in the past, so no meetings right here in ground zero is the easy way out. Last public meeting they had there was held at the convention center when this same group that most likely pulled the strings to get this deal pulled off was trying to impose their will on the deer reg's back then for the whole delta regions. Folk's knew there was a skunk in the deal & they came out in force, it was standing room only, so drawing a crowd when there is issues, and trust me, there is issues with all folks on this deal no matter there what their peferred form of hunting is. The only places one from this area have to go is Little Rock, Jonesboro or Montecillo and the last two are the only ones they even have on the whole eastern part of the state, all of which is a hike from here even to the closest.

4 hunting you are so right we do need some meetings in the affected areas but it ain't gonna happen. They had meetings at the Bald Knob high school yearly in the 90s.They quit having them after they made some changes that had everyone wondering. The last 2 they had at BK had some huge crowds and lots of concerns--- so they quit having them here and moved most of them to LR I attended a couple down there and there wasn't half as many people there.Im pretty sure that's why they won't have them in the affected areas.Go figure.

I've been to several but it's an exercise in futility. They aren't listening and don't care. Nothing is going to change. They are so incompetent and the structure of the organization is so flawed that their is almost no hope for change. If complaining in front of the crowd makes you feel better then go for it but that's all you'll be accomplishing. I've done so knowing full well it was a waste of time but it's a lose lose proposition. Doing nothing does no good and complaining does no good.

kmc, yes you could bow hunt during the opening but, the opening was done just to catch the gun hunts per the dates. I do not agree with it being reopened at all but for them to open it just so it will catch all remaining gun hunts and then close it is a slap in the face to bowhunters. If it wasn't going to hurt to reopen it then they should have just opened it and left it open because bow harvest numbers this time of year are low anyway. It just looks like they chose a side and it should be fair for everyone no matter your choice of weapon.
