Applications open today. Where ya trying to hunt? I've applied Fort Chaffee first choice on MG and ML, with 2nd choice at J Perry Mikle SUA and Hobbs State Park respectively. Haven't applied for a permit in 20 years.

Also hoping to pick up a Colorado mule deer tag next month if any are left.

I got mine in. After I had completed the application process a pop up came up and said "Thanks sucker! Please be sure and apply again next year". :headscratch:

i put in for the gun permit at hurricane and the SUA. i have not drawn a gun permit in hurricane in 6 years and the SUA in 3 years. I have my doubts about the "random" draw.

same, I emailed them the other day about I wish theyd bring the preference points back, and they said but this way at random newcomers have a chance to draw. I wanted to say the newcomers should have to wait there turn like everyone else, but I didnt.

ever since I tagged out during the gun hunt and started bow hunting and tagging deer in with archery equipment on public ground my draw success has went to ZERO

I’m a little suspect about the random part too. Ever since I got my lifetime license, I’ve draw everything I’ve applied for...

I can promise lifetime licenses don’t increase your odds...

AGFC is missing a big opportunity to raise funds for habitat or whatever by not having a points system

I'm curious now, do y'all put in for really sought after permits? If so that $1000 would be money well spent if ya could draw it every year. Say an area like grandview or choctaw

for sure! Just take the $5 permit application fee and apply that to points. If ya dont draw, you have 1 point for next year. If ya choose to you can save your points or buy additional ones each year. I think it would be a better system.

I'd be glad to pay that or more for points, especially for elk. I pay a lot more than that for points in western states

exactly! Points in Iowa is $62, and you need atleast 4 to draw! For elk or these other high sought permits I'd pay $10-$20 a point.

How many years have you been going after permits? Are you applying for tough permits to draw?

I hate most points systems! Places like Colorado with point creep just make it impossible to ever get drawn if you didn’t get in on day 1.

I like how with the lifetime you don’t have to pay to apply for permits.

AND how you can hunt as a resident if you move out of state... it’s already paid for itself for me.

A hybrid system is definitely better than a pure preference point system like Colorado
