PAT. APPIED FOR Olt with a keyhole

Recently bought a patent applied for Olt. Most of these calls that I have seen are round holes, and the keyholes are the #348205 serial numbers. However, this call is a patent applied for call and has a keyhole toneboard and the end of the insert is a keyhole as well. Is this odd? or has anyone else seen this before?

does the whole call smell like burnt rubber?

could be a mismatched pair but all of my key holes where either registered trademark or patent applied for
I will post pics. Yes the call does smell like burnt rubber. Not strong but you can smell it a little.

I got one or 2......
Alot of the guys I hunt with have been blowing olts for years and all of there old style keyholes were the ones with 348205 stamped on it, and the pat applied calls were round holes. I just didnt realize that there were some keyholes as well.
You don't play well with hammers do you?

Nice call though.
Hey not sure if you know this but your going to lose that fingernail. Just thought you should know:fit:
hahaha. I was waiting on a comment about that. Everybody I've sent these pics has said something about the thumb. Thanks though. Just need to get the call cut now. My buddy knows a guy who learned how to cut calls from lester himself, but he isnt really wanting to cut them for people anymore. Not really sure who else to talk to.
"IF".......it was my call......and "IF" I was gonna get somebody to cut it..........I'd either get SunnyB or Alphamax32 to do it.......you can PM either one here.

That's "IF" it was my call. I'm sure there are plenty of others that can do you a good job.
Thanks for the help doug. I will send PM's and see if one of them would be interested.

honestly in my opinion....if it is uncut i would put it up.....plenty of cutdown on the market today....those old key holes uncut are toooo much of a rarity
I have been using a BSOD original and really like it, but there is part of me that just liked the idea of having the real thing. Really no other good reason. On the subject of the call being cut already, After cleaning the call and looking at the tone board closely there are some diagonal lines across it that looks like someone could have ran a file over it. The call does not have the bark of a cut down when blown. I can squeal it if I blow to hard. So I just figured it hadnt been cut. I always was under the impression that if cut to much the call would produce no sound on the bottom end, when blowing softly.
I am fairly new to the idea of cutting calls though so please correct me if I am wrong. I appreciate any help or advice.
whatever you do not get in the channell....a lot of people prefer a high reed set and the the 45-50 degree slope from about a 1/16 to 1/8 in past the end of the channell....just go very very slow and keep stickin the reed int and out and blowing it till u get it
I'll have to double check, but I'm pretty sure the model you have was made from 1939 to 1941. After 1941, the patent was approved and all calls bore the trademark number. I've slept a few times since I've looked through my Illinois call books, so I'll check later.

your are correct
Don't cut that insert. The Pat applied for inserts don't come around every day. I think that may not be the original barrel. If it were me, I'd put it up and not mess with it.
Klittle250, thanks for the information. Very Interesting. Madduck, I am guessing your refering to a louisiana cut, I have tried this cut with the colt 45 and prefered the more straight down arkansas cut. I doubt Ill try any cutting myself, but just out of curiousity, where would you start cutting if you were trying to get an arkansas type cut on the call?
