i work for DIS network engineering for the state. we provide all the connectivity and equipment setup to all the state agency's and public schools/colleges. this includes in the internet content filtering.
do you get a page that says something simlar to this??:
the best thing to do is buddy up with your technology coordinator at the school. Most tech coordinators log into the state's filtering servers and have control of what your schools can filter and not filter for your IP range (school) issued by the state. Odds are they (your tech guy) probably enabled the guns and weapons catergory, because i can still access all gun sites from my desk at work, so its not a sweeping change applied to everyone on the state network
if your tech guy logs into our system, then he can make exceptions and allow certain websites like midway.com, while still filtering sites about gang bangers with guns. if you ask nicely they probably will do it, but then again some are weird and think they have some sort of power since they control what you view and can't
if this site ever gets blocked, shoot me a PM
