Boykins are excellent waterfowl and upland dogs. They exibit Chesapeake tolerance of cold and harsh conditions. They are EXCELLENT family dogs. They stink when wet. They need early and a large volume of socialization. They are very prey driven. They are a one man/family dog, and will guard. I can't think of a better dog for a first time waterfowler. No duck hunter will find fault with your dog. They will find fault with you if you do not bring out the full potential of the dog. Breeding gave the dog everything it needs to be a great hunting companion, you have to do your part to let it learn how to be a partner. The dog wants to!
