Just an update for all the good folks asking about my hand. The flesh wound has healed. None of the flesh died, praise God! I am back at work (Marsh Man is glad of that )

The pain is finally better. Haven't had to take but 2 pain meds in 2 weeks. Haven't had to wear the Tins Unit since Friday. I'm still in a cast but they shortened it to my wrist. I'm gradually getting out of the sling too. Doing some therapy with the whole hand. That ain't for sissies!!!

One bone is still broken in 3 places and some smaller bones crushed. Dr. had hoped the bones would go back together on their own but that's not happening. So I may be looking at one more surgery to fix the bones. Will go back to Dr. on Jan. 4th.

I went to the woods for the first time Saturday and it was so wonderful. I still can't hold a gun to shoot but that's ok. Being out there with the camera is enough for me.

Thank you all for your prayers and kind thoughts.

I feel for you bett_lou. I use a crossbow as well and I'll probably not ever shoot it again without remembering your above post.

Hope you continue to heal quickly. :thumb:

I have been thinking bout you everytime I pick one up, you know that is an injury you don't think about a lot but is probably more common than we know. glad you are able to get back out in the woods with your camera :thumb: enjoyed the pics

Glad you were able to get a nature fix BL. Maybe before season you and MM can work on him cushioning the shot while you shoot a deer.

Glad to hear your healing...may ask you Doc about increasing your intake of Calcium to give plenty for repairing the bone...

XBows have always scared the bejeezus out of me...I get nervous just being
in the same room with one...

Quack on Oct. 5th I was target shooting my xbow. Shot it 7 or 8 times, hunted with it last year, but I got complacent I suppose. I had my thumb sticking up in front of the string when I pulled the trigger. The string almost tore my left thumb off. I've been going to a Hand specialist, surgeon and plastic surgeon in Jackson, MS.

The Dr. said the bone breaking is what stopped the string from tearing my thumb off. Several times they thought I would lose it due to infection. But I've still got a thumb, it's not ever going to work but I have one.

I've been battling this for almost 3 months. So I'm tickled I was able to go to the woods. I've missed hunting so bad!

Thanks for the update BL I've been wondering about you. I've never had a reason to shoot a crossbow before and this is definately a good reason not to get one now.
  15. As a fellow X-bower, I was messing with my bow out hunting this past weekend, and a few times found my hand/fingers up above where the string could hit them if it just so happened to fire while I moved it around in the stand. Glad to hear you're on the mend, and keeping safety in the front of my mind from now on! OH, and.....what's UP with our Saints? I mean...REALLY? Do I need to get my paper bag back out???????
