Starting it two weeks later pushes it right into the middle of turkey rut lockdown phase and lockdown will last most of the first week now. By the end of the first week, lockdown phase of turkey rut will be over and most hens will be bred. Then second chasing phase of turkey rut starts. It’s a much shorter peak than first rut, and much more affected by weather.I thought that’s why we’re starting 2 weeks later. “Give em time to breed the hens.”
I thought that’s what the one bird in the first week was for. They’re just copying what MO has done forever. The idea is to spread out the harvest instead of having all the easy gobblers killed on opening day. It ain’t about the hunter, it’s about the resource, as it should be.
I figure that will be what’s next.I thought that’s what the one bird in the first week was for.
Uhh.. in case you didn’t know, that went into effect last year.I figure that will be what’s next.
Told ya so….Uhh.. in case you didn’t know, that went into effect last year.
It was that way for several years, to many people complained and wanted a week of rest after the youths stirred them up is their reason for pushing it back a week. Why not opener for kids on Saturday before opener on Monday for the Rest..Win,win..
And we allow fanning? Its just a matter of time. To all fannersYes and April 1st was/is always the First Day of Turkey Season..Just can't hunt with a Gun..But can with a Camera....
Think Their we're Several Accidents back in the day..
One guy got shot in the Face,Blinded him...AGFC moved to Monday opener..
Good Hunting..
If ya ain't a little selfish, you ain't a Turkey hunter...Hmmmmmmmm..
Anybody else find it odd that deer hunters scream and cry about loss of "hunter opportunity" anytime a change in season structure is mentioned but it seems many turkey hunters are okay with taking away their fellow hunters opportunity?
I wish I was the only person on the planet allowed to turkey hunt.Hmmmmmmmm..

Maybe we should allow rifles and have 6 weeks of season. That way everyone has plenty opportunities to fill their tags. That should make for a quality hunting experience. And of course, everyone needs the “opportunity”, so we need a two bird limit, with legal jakes. We should also have a Spring Archery season and ML season. Maybe we should also have a private ground season that opens earlier that public ground. These all sound like good ideas, right??Hmmmmmmmm..
