I thought that’s why we’re starting 2 weeks later. “Give em time to breed the hens.”
Starting it two weeks later pushes it right into the middle of turkey rut lockdown phase and lockdown will last most of the first week now. By the end of the first week, lockdown phase of turkey rut will be over and most hens will be bred. Then second chasing phase of turkey rut starts. It’s a much shorter peak than first rut, and much more affected by weather.

My point was simply that they have been restricting hunters increasingly more over the last decade and none of it has had a positive effect on the population. Since it went into effect only last year, we’ve yet to see the effect of that one. The next few years should let us know about it, but didn’t someone start a thread about Missouri numbers being down?
I’ll fess up and say I have been asking for our old last Sat in March for kids and first Sat. in April for us regular season for the last 10yr in my gobbler survey. With a one bird limit!

Anybody else find it odd that deer hunters scream and cry about loss of "hunter opportunity" anytime a change in season structure is mentioned but it seems many turkey hunters are okay with taking away their fellow hunters opportunity?
If ya ain't a little selfish, you ain't a Turkey hunter...

I wish I was the only person on the planet allowed to turkey hunt.

Maybe we should allow rifles and have 6 weeks of season. That way everyone has plenty opportunities to fill their tags. That should make for a quality hunting experience. And of course, everyone needs the “opportunity”, so we need a two bird limit, with legal jakes. We should also have a Spring Archery season and ML season. Maybe we should also have a private ground season that opens earlier that public ground. These all sound like good ideas, right??
