Those are perfect for bow fishing. Plenty of poundage. When I bowfished I had mine set at like 12lbs. Doesn’t take much to shoot through a fish. To much poundage and you spend all your energy trying to pull your arrow out of the mud every time you shoot.
It should be ok for gar and smaller buffalo and carp.
My youngest daughter’s bow is set at 15 and it gets the job done. It won’t shoot through a bigger fish, but it’ll stick and hang on to them long enough to shoot them with a bow that will.
Kerr is right about a heavy bow burying arrows up in the mud. I have a 45# recurve and a 40# compound that will make you regret missing a fish in a weed bed pretty quickly.
I’m surprised y’all have had luck with 15 lbs.
I set up my sons Little PSE when he was about 9 and it was set on 20 lbs.
It really struggled to shoot the fish arrow. It would only penetrate smaller gar at point blank range.
Once he got where he could pull 40 lbs. it was on !
