Lake Conway drawdown

I have not used the search feature on here to look for info, but there are some rumors going around on FB that there is a pretty good draw down coming for Lake Conway. This was posted in one group:

"Ok just got off the phone with biologist over lake Conway , he said the lake draw down is gonna happen, can not give a start date , but the whole lake will be renovated in his words, including the dam and spillway, he also said that the lake will be allowed to dry out so equipment can get in and compact the silt, this will take years to accomplish , so lake will be drawn down for years. All depends on the weather as of how long, the rumor I heard was 5 years he said he hoped it didn’t take that long…….."

Anyone got an real knowledge on it?

If it stays dry for very long, you can kiss the stumps and fish cover goodbye.
I think the fish will be happy with the cypress trees and cypress roots and knees for cover.
It will also grow up in willow thickets. Etc.

Trey Reid said on 103.7 this morning that the rumors about having a plan for draining Conway are completely erroneous. He said they been kicking the idea around for the last ten years but there is no current plan. Take that for what it’s worth.
Yeah right! So says the AGFC public relations spokesperson. I'll get my info from internet gossip if it's all the same to you.

I had a gator silently rise up to the surface right beside my boat, years ago. Then he submerged. Scared me to death.

But......in my best Crocodile Dundee voice........"He wasn't a gator, THIS is a gator". View attachment 396204
Buck you need to come over here, the kids have named our gators.

That sob talks out the side of his mouth worse than most democrats. He's actually auditioning to be bidets next Whitehouse press secretary.
Most of the time a drawdown on an older lake that lasts several years will dramatically improve fishing after the lake refills. Here in TX we have lakes get extremely low due to drought and stay that way for years. About 5 years after they fill back up the fishing is amazing due all the new grass/brush/etc growth. OH Ivie has produced a bunch of bass in the 13-17lb range the last few years after it had been really low for years. Falcon is 35 ft low ( and that’s up a lot from a few months ago). The last time it filled ( after being 40-60 ft low for years) the fishing was insane. 40lb 5 bass limits were common. Im told crappie fishing was great as well.

Key part of that being, “take that for what it’s worth.” So yeah, it’s all the same to me.

He IS a Democrat. There was a big blow-up back in 2016 when he revealed he was a Hillary supporter.
they've drawn it down a few times since I've lived here. The years after refilling, fishing was off the charts.

Trey Reed just said he was misinformed last week and they would be doing a drawdown. I didn’t catch when but hopefully they can get it done quick.

There's something happening here... What it is ain't exactly clear.....

If you see me on the interwebs talking about how pleased we are down here about the White Oak renovation don't throw rocks at me....

It will be a pain. It will suck to not be able to go fishing close to home. It will be better. I know there is a lot of hate and disdain for the AGFC, some of it justified. But, these cats know what they are doing it appears to me. I have boated a 10lb, a 9lb, close to a dozen 8lb and more 4-7 than I can count. Last Thursday Night 23lbs 3oz with a 9lb 5oz kicker wont a 2hr 45min derby. My best 5 over the weekend went over 22lbs, with 6-6 being the biggest. The lake everyone referred to as Dead Oak is alive and well thanks to the AGFC.

If they don’t draw it down now and work over the summer it’ll sit this winter.
I must be the only one happy with the way it is. I see no reason to mess with it.

I support re-doing the lake. It’s past it’s prime by a lot of years. It’s still good now as is but can be much better with dredging etc and can hopefully become more of a draw for the area. Maybe the residents of the lake will start cleaning up too….

try talking to the people who live on the other side of the lake that has silted and it ain't nothing but an alligator breeding ground. you need a weed eater to get to the trees we used to run yo-yo's in as a kid. the dam sucks and needs to be updated. it would be nice if they would cut the creek 20' deep x 40' wide all the way through the lake and maybe even plant some new trees. Let them cry
