Lake Conway drawdown

I have not used the search feature on here to look for info, but there are some rumors going around on FB that there is a pretty good draw down coming for Lake Conway. This was posted in one group:

"Ok just got off the phone with biologist over lake Conway , he said the lake draw down is gonna happen, can not give a start date , but the whole lake will be renovated in his words, including the dam and spillway, he also said that the lake will be allowed to dry out so equipment can get in and compact the silt, this will take years to accomplish , so lake will be drawn down for years. All depends on the weather as of how long, the rumor I heard was 5 years he said he hoped it didn’t take that long…….."

Anyone got an real knowledge on it?

That’s all I’ve heard, but it sounds like it’s for sure happening according to someone that talked to a AGFC biologist. I’ve heard some say early June and others say August 25, so who knows when it will really happen. But the lake is supposed to be completely killed off and restocked when they finally let it fill back up in 3-5 years.
our fence row is still up, do i get our land back?

I heard drawdown starts august 1st and the lake completely emptied, trenches cut and could possibly take up to 10yrs to rebound.
It’s been discussed for 20 years. It was in discussion when I was with the fisheries division a long time ago. I’m not sure how I feel about it. The locals know how to fish it as is and the fish are thriving. This will make it more accessible for the masses

Could you imagine if you had jus tbought a house on that lake and then they drain it for 5 years? I'd be so pissed

Funny thing is, I was looking at lots a few months back. I think I will wait till they get that sucker drained, and then pick my search backup.

I think the last time they did this, the Barrel Tree was still up.
Too bad. Caught a lot of crappie & bass in that lake when I was growing up. Looks like many years before it gets back to normal.
People will prob think their property will be worth more with a new and improved lake conway in the future.
Sad to see. The rumor is they’re doing the same to a lake up here, and the verbiage I’ve heard is eerily similar to what they’re saying about Conway. Sucks.
Imma walk out there and find that crankbait I lost.

Bring deep boots. Last time this happened, folks were out there with buckets looking for the last little pools of water, picking up tons of fish.

However, if you find the lower unit to a Merc 9.9, give me a call. Start looking around that petrified stump in the dang middle of Boat Lane D.

The AGFC did a draw down and ‘improvement’ to a small lake close to my house. That has been close to 10 years ago and that lake is still not what it was. The fishing is terrible there compared to what it was previously.
Anyone fished Poinsett since the renovation? Wonder how it's doing.

I have several friends who fish it regularly. I thought it would never recoup in my lifetime. I’d say I was very wrong.

That would be this guy lol lived here a year and then these rumors start flying.

I emailed AGFC a month or so about it and was told a new dam was in the plan but there was no date set nor did they imply that it would be a complete drain. The dam is currently manually adjusted by hand and they’re wanting to get it more modernized.
I don’t see why it would take 5 years to rebuild the small dam they have…….to me just build one downstream from the current one then blow it up like the broadway bridge once completed
