New to bowhunting and new to bows altogether. Got a new bow for xmas and was practicing in my back yard. Accidentally shot my wife's favorite aluminum wind chime. The field point penetrated the tube which is like 3/16" thick. I can see the rest of the stuff she has on the fence is in danger. And didn't seem to hurt the arrow.

Carbon are pretty tough. In general, I would say if you break a carbon shaft you would have at least bent an aluminum shaft. I would say there are probably a lot of times you would bend aluminum and a carbon shaft would be fine. I would say I buy carbon shafts half as often as I used to buy aluminum.
