I've talked to a guy who goes in that way, but I have not tried it!
:wink:Wondering if anybody has thought of hunting the line between Holland Bottoms and Southern Oaks Country Club? Not sure if Holland Bottoms goes all that way out or not? Looks like it on google earth, but I can't really be for sure. The tree line and old levy is the boundary between Holland Bottoms WMA and the Gold Course...
Also looks like you could walk in from Lakewood Circle in Cabot area and be in a pretty good place? Wonder if anybody would complain if you parked at the end of a dead end and walked in? Yes they do mind and have signs saying so...just so you know
I may have to look into how much a vacant lot at the end of that circle is going for, set me up a feeder, and harvest a few late season deer.
IF I had that SW Corner Lot I'd high fence it and put a toll-gate on it and provide parking for access to the North end of the bottoms...
Just curious what ya'll thought are.
I've been over that way a few times but I've never seen a bridge? I know where the bridges are right behind the the parking lot on the opposite side of the boat launch. Are those the ones you are thinking of. There are several pretty easy trails for a mountain bike out there. I've used it a few times in the early season when it was dryer.Last time I was out there they had clear-cut the East side of the RR tracks from the crossing North...not sure how far it goes or what the condition is...might not be too bad on a Mt Bike.
The NE corner of the lake has a walk bridge giving access to the West side of the tracks on the North end of the lake...it is about .8 mile to the property boundary behind Lakewood Circle as the crow files or about 1.4 mile from the East Side Parking area at the lake...
Im not too worried about it. I've got a pretty hot early season stand when it's dry. Just looking for a different place for the later season. I think I found a good spot a few weeks ago, but it's right next to a bedding area and I'm scared to use it. Don't want to scare the deer out of there. I need to find a better place to cross the creek on the north side of the lake. Again found a few spots but it's been pretty deep here lately.I would contact whoever owns the land on the north end of HB. I'm almost positive it's the guy who developed the subdivision there.
Back several years ago we used to hunt squirrell in there and we were bad to shoot a few extra now and then. My boss would park his truck at food king (freds now) ride his four wheeler down the railroad tracks from town and carry out the extra tree rats when we were done. One day a train came down the tracks before daylight, saw him and started slamming on the brakes. How he kept from getting in trouble I dont know but all he had to do was ride the conductor down the tracks to make sure everything was ok.I figured they might have a problem with it. Guess I'll have to do the old fashioned walk a long way in. Might try it tomorrow while squirrel hunting and see if I can find some good sign. Might need to break out the bike tomorrow morning and see how long it takes.
