Talking with a guy about hogging catfish and the topic of getting bit by a loggerhead or cottonmouth came up. My point was I've never heard of this happening to anyone so not very likely at all.

Has anyone ever heard of this happening?

Never a turtle or a snake but a guy I used to go noodling with in Oklahoma found a beaver one time. He ended up with some cool looking scars from it.

I have never, not one time, come anywhere close to getting snake bit while catfish noodling.

Never had an encounter with snake or turtle but I’ve only done it a dozen times or so

I remember the story of a couple guys hogging in the L'Anguille River when I was growing up. I can't verify if it is true, don't remember the name, but one of the guys went up inside a hollow cypress tree. When he surfaced inside the tree, he died from what was said to be an accumulation of gas inside the tree. Methane gas?

I don't know about a loggerhead turtle, but an alligator snapping turtle that can crush broomsticks could do some serious damage to a wrist. Cut the arteries in a wrist and dying becomes a real possibility, especially if you couldn't get the beast to let go. I've caught some with mouths about 4 inches wide that weighed at least 25-30 pounds. That "beak" could be a savage weapon.

Aren’t a freshwater loggerhead and an alligator snapping turtle the same thing? We used them interchangeably in the delta when I lived there.

I bet you would have a better chance of winning the Powerball lottery, finding a golden ticket in a chocolate bar, and drawing a WMA tag on the same day than dying from a Snapper bite.

This. Loggerhead is a common name for an alligator snapping turtle.

I never had any desire to wade in the water, stick my hands in a log or hole, & try to grab something that I couldn't see....o_O

Call a big nasty turtle, snakes and/or beavers what you want. I'll pass on being in the water with them. I also wear a face mask religiously. I've made it to 71 and would like at least 15 more years fishing.
