I built a new hanging automatic corn feeder to replace a broken tripod feeder we had... I plan to use my climber and hang the bracket 15-20' in a tree with a wire cable pulley system and hoist it up using a boat winch mounted at the base of the tree. The reason I'm hanging it so high is to see if bucks will visit it more with it being 'out of sight'. From trail cameras & huntin we notice bucks rarely visit our tripod feeders, but if we just dump a pile on the ground they'll hit it quite a bit.
The feeder is made out of a metal 16 gal drum that'll hold 100# of corn. We've never tried this before so my original plan was to put a pulley on the end of the hanger and crank it up.. After talking it over with dad, he doesn't think it'll be very easy to crank it up with just a single pulley down to the boat winch. So I figured a double pulley system (pictured) may make it a lot easier? Are we overthinking this? haha Any tips or suggestions from experience you have would be greatly appreciated!
