Curious question and am not trying to do anything but satisfy my own curiosity: How do you feel about poly chokes and Cutts compensatory on shotguns?

Made a quick run this morning they were moving but in all the wrong places. Gonna be a long week chomping at the bit to get back out there and watching y’all hammer down on them! Good luck and stay safe fellas!

I’m not a fan of the looks but I have one on an old 1100 barrel and it seemed to do the job. I had it installed before removable choke barrels became popular. I still have it.

I got out this morning. It was nice and cool and no mosquitoes. It was a blessing to be in the woods this time of the year. I put 220 miles on my truck this morning for naught. I prolly walked a couple of miles zig zagging through the woods. A great day.

My experience with them is that I don’t like them and I couldn’t get a good pattern from the one I had.

I asked because most people don't like the looks of them. To me, a silencer/moderator has the same look. I personally don't mind polychokes and really like cutts chokes. They pattern great. Cutts and polychokes drop the value of a shotgun drastically.

I don’t like the way a poly looks on a shotgun. Unless it’s an old beat up bolt action.
But the main reason I don’t like them is I am used looking down a flat/raised rib. I also don’t like shotguns with no rib.
I don’t think a suppressor looks good either. Don’t think they look bad. But, every shot I took this morning was very quiet, until impact. The sound of the lead hitting the squirrels heads was worth the $. Matter of fact, I like it so much, from this point on, I won’t own a 22 without a threaded brl.
Hell, I own 10/22’s. Ain’t much uglier than that. I ain’t out there for a fashion show.

As I said not trying to stir up anything. I already figured how you felt about polys. I just wanted to point out the irony of people not liking polys cause they look like a dog turd on a gun barrel yet many put moderators on fine rifles that give the same look. Nothing wrong with quiet but I strongly believe that squirrels pay little attention to the noise until later in the year when the feeding frenzies are done and they have been hunted heavily. Then the problem is they can see you at great distances and won't let you approach.
Now, what you trade me your Kimber for? Lol

My experience with the poly chokes is limited to family shotguns and some old collectibles. I like the concept of having the adjustment at a twist but like @N8HARNER said the patterns leave something to be desired. Grandpas ol shotgun is the exception! That thing flat smokes critters. But never have adjusted the choke it’s set where he had it and doesn’t hit the woods often anymore. So personally don’t mind the look of them but when they don’t function and are there makes much since as racing stripes on a moped.

They don't bother me, neither does a silencer on a rifle. I saw Arky73s picture and the thought occurred to me that they produce a similar look and all my life I have heard people gripe about the way a polychoke makes a fine shotgun look.
