You can expect warm weather, lots of other hunters and no rut activity. The buck there rut around Thanksgiving. I would hunt close to water and cedar thickets. Good luck.

Boom
deer

I always seen more deer hunting close to the camp sites. Be aware.. them deer won't stand there and let you look at them long. They are skiddish as a duck.
I hear Chaffee will be closed alot again due to training. Hope you get your hunt in.

According to the Post Commander the gun hunts will happen this year without fail. We'll see anyhow. I got drawn for the Nov. 29th MZ hunt @ Chaffee. It kind of makes me mad that that is all I got drawn for. Last year I had opening day of gun and mz but then the hunt was cancelled. I even went out and bought a mzl just for that. I was under the impression that you would retain your point status plus gain one for this year. Apparently not since I didn't get drawn for anything else. Maybe the second draw will be more successful. If nothing else I hope the mz gets broken in this time atleast. :skeptical:
What area do you hunt on Chaffee? Im out there ALOT. You ever apply for the Chaffee Crossing hunt?
On Wattensaw, I've seen alot more deer way off the beaten path.

Elite-taxidermy my best buck came out of 7a but I jump around alott.Mainly the 6's, 7's,8'sand 9's I hardly ever hunt the west side of the base.I have hunted the chaffee crossing land the last 2 years, the first year was great but last year was way slower hardley seen any legal deer.Your wife didn't work at whirlpool awhile back did she?
Yea, she worked at whirlpool. She took the buy-out and has been going to school since then. My best buck came from 1a during the gun hunt a few years ago. I killed a hog on 9a about 4 years ago.You ever find any of them out there? Alot of them in 6e.
I have been hog hunting since july 1st , no luck. I have had some close calls but no bacon yet. They seem to be all over the east side of the base. But I now a guy who killed one in 3.
I used to basicly live on 3. For the first 10 I hunted chaffee I was on 3. Its almose alwase open. One of my best friends killed a buck out there in "99 that scored 160 5/8. At the Arkansas big buck classic, it was the biggest buck taken with a crossbow in the state and the biggest from sabastian co. with anything. I missed that deers dad. He was one of the biggest deer Ive ever seen, alive or dead. 3 is awesome! Never seen any hogs there though. I do know of one guy that said he did, but mst of what he says is BS. I would not doubt that there are some there. I will be looking for them this year.
The guy that killed the hog lives in 3 also,he said it was the first and only one he has seen.He has several nice deer on his wall to from that area.
