Is it better to have to have a pup spayed before or after they ever come in heat?

I'm no Vet but everything I've ever been told is you wait for their first cycle, they have the potential to mature better this way.

Our vet in Jonesboro told us to do it before the first cycle. That's what we did.

I'm not Dr. Gentry, but I'm sure he would agree, that it is always best to spay a dog prior to their first heat. Doing so essentially prevents breast cancer later, which is the #1 tumor that occurs in female dogs.
