Gonna buy a gatortail as soon as my buddy buys my boat, but my question is how do they do in open water?

ask 10 story or rem870, we've run a couple gator tails(different hp) this year on 10story's boats he just built, they passed two other mudboats(that had some other type motor) with the gatortail two different mornings

1546 xpress with pods 23 hp gatortail----2 people 21 mph, 1 person 25 mph in open water, but in shallow water , faster than any boat or motor made with simialr setup. longtails dont do anything but scare the boat trying to pass them .

weve run semi v and mud boat, simialr speeds, mud boat just slides through mud easier and will go a little shallower.
