I dont know if they need to be done away with but some adjustment would be good. I own property in Pocahontas in zone 4 that is next to black river. When the gauge at corning went over 11 ft it shut my property down because it was in the flood zone. river gauge at Pocahontas was 12 ft, no flooding at all on my farm or anywhere around. Most of the flooding was above the pipeline crossing way upriver. No reason for it to close down here. Another example is right across the river is zone 3, my uncle owns that and it never closed.

None of my source's inside the system can validate this one way or the other, but it does not suprise me if it is being considered. What kills me about G&F is they start out with something that is good & functions, then by the time they add all the special perks to it for this special interest group & that special interest group they end up with something that is worst than we started with & totally does not function. Having private land inside of Flood Zone D and speaking as a private land owner, IMO I feel the flood zone is a needed deal. But the way it is done now does not work, it needs to be keep in place but re-done. Inside of D What I would like seen done if to just have a simple Go or No Go level set. As it stands now here in Zone D, when the river reach's 28ft, it closes, no probem with that, but it has to fall back to 27ft before it re-opens. There is no logic in the way it is done. Take these examples to see if one can explain any logic! The river could be 29.9 on first day of season, Oct 1 as it is now & the season would be open to hunt. But if the river raised to 28ft on the second day of season, Oct 2, it would close the season & then even if it fell back to that 27.9ft mark on the 3rd day, Oct 3 and stayed there until the last day, legaly it would remain closed the entire season, only having 1 legal day to hunt. But on the other hand, the level could be 27.9 on opening day, Oct 1 & it could stay at 27.9 everyday of the season until the end, Feb 28 without raising that 1.2 inch's, a person could legally hunt everyday of the season with no issues. Like I said, where's the logic in being able to hunt at 27.9 on a rise, but not being able to hunt at 27.9 on a fall? IMO, the best deal would be to just a simple Go or No Go mark set, if it is below you Go, if not you don't, no grey area's, no special perks for anyone and no issues. But the word "Simple" does not seem to be part of the Master Management plan of this New G&F nowdays!

It's 100% their proposal as I have read the proposal. They also list a bunch of numbers and history in the proposal and state that they are now in the herd management phase whereas before they were in the herd building phase. I hear that it's pretty well a done deal, which I tend to believe.

4hunting has it right. I would go a little futher and not close until 29 ft and reopen at something just slightly less I've seen it take many weeks to fall below 27feet as the area is just so great. It doesn't take much rain to keep it above 27 once it gets to 28. And the rules should apply to the whole zone D.

Well I stand corrected JoeyT, you 100% dead on by what some of my sources now tell me. This has been being keep pretty hush-hush, only now are they letting it go down the food chain inside the system. You must know some folks that are a little higher up on the food chain inside the system! The proposal is to do "Competely" away with flood zone restrictions on Privately Owned lands Only, public lands will still be under flood zone mandates. Man o Man, what a mess this is going to be on alot of differant fronts!!!!!

With online game checking and real time harvest data, this would work if the AGFC set a quota for each flood zone. On the date that the harvest goal was met or exceeded, all deer hunting for that zone would be done for the year. It is basically the same way they manage black bears.

You're correct 4hunting.... What a mess it will be. And whether it's the right move or not, I m starting to lose all trust in the commission. I read an article somewhere with the head of the commission stating how he wanted to restore trust in the commission and the system, anyone else happen to read that same article and remember where they read it?
