The best places I find them are in old bayous that you have to have a small boat to get them. It’s a headache but the places where you can back a big boat in the water, somebody has already caught them. My buddy has a farm with an ole bayou running through it that is places just looks like a ditch. We put my small boat with a trolling motor on it in there and caught 50 something that was all a foot long stretched out.

 

Agree. They are caught out early in the easy places. Vegetation getting grown up so bad where we hunt, you cant see them now

 

I was thinking abt trying this little slough..it’s right off the river but idk how much traffic it gets and how “froggy” it is

 

Dont know what it looks like now - but those banks look awfully clean in that pic. Frogs will be in shaded, dark areas.

 

Sneak on to the anderson minnow ponds. Just dont park on the highway[emoji1]

Them game and fish lakes around Hollis have some good ones. Lake overcup has some too.

 

I've been all around this area bowfishing & the only place I've seen any frogs to amount to anything is the old river cut off. You'd think they'd be all up & down the fourche.

 

I tried froggin the fourche abt 10 years ago and we found were snakes

I never really done any froggen, but figured if there's any around you can hear em.

 

Usually the more moss,weeds,or grass in the water there will be more frogs.If it was me I'd go where the most aquatic vegetation was . I'm pretty much out of the frog game since my frog hunting buddy died years back.It just wasn't the same plus frog numbers ain't what they used to be.

 

I was just talking to my wife’s uncle and he said the same thing abt the frog numbers

 

I have been a frog nut all my life...I love gigging rivers...can't tell you how many nights I put in at burns park with 2guys in the boat and was back in 2 hrs limited...
Did that several nights in a row.
I skipped prom to frog gig
I skipped graduation to frog gig
I also filled many sacks off rixey Rd.. Trammel Rd
And yes minnow farms

 

We’ve got a bunch of frogs in farm ponds but they never get big enuf to eat. I watch pretty close.

 

They become fish food....

 

Man we use to catch 200 or more a night a lot of nights never had to get off the 4wheeler. Some idiots ruined it of course.

All the old timers I grew up around said they thought all the farm chemicals killed them in area.They told me all the stories you could go down just about any bayou or creek and have a whole ice chest full in just a couple bends or so.There still a few decent pockets of frogs here and there.But last few times I went it took most of the night just to get a mess.We just go to buffet now.Not quite as tasty as wild frogs but a lot cheaper than burning gas driving around all night and losing lots of sleep.

 

Part of reason for fewer frogs also - open night of frog season sounds like opening morning of duck season. Dang mud motors let frog hunters get anywhere. Frogs cant find a sanctuary or get any rest.

True story...so don't laugh ..all the seafood Buffet's before the war Named Dessert Storm had huge froglegs ...I asked a lady that ran the restaurant and she said an embargo on India had stopped allowing the frog legs in the country
